RE: US NEWS school rankings
You're creating new rankings that completely separate public and private universities? Eh, guess it makes my school look better. The 8th best Ivy would probably be distressed about getting a lower number than Texas though.

Georgia Tech isn't a private :D

US News & World Report's rankings are flawed. It's biased towards LARGE schools. Nothing is per capita ... it's all total bottom line numbers.

Public and private schools should be ranked differently since both have completely different missions.

I agree SF. On a side note, ALL of the Big East football schools are a least at Tier 3.

TIGER means Georgetown not Georgia Tech when he says GT. I know it's confusing because there were times I thought people were talking about Georgia Tech because I think of Tech when I see GT.

It's just another way for the big schools to ensure that they can feel superior.

RE: US NEWS school rankings
no, just comparing more similiar schools with comparable endowments.
Kind of hard to fairly compare dartmouth to wvu.

Not always. There's a wide difference between educational missions of, say, Liberty versus Stanford, likewise, between City College of New York and Michigan.

Sadly, just about every BCS school is atleast Tier 3. 03-banghead

To be honest, I pay more attention to the Carnigie Foundation's Reasearch Activity Classification than the USnews Tiers, though I guess they do give a good summary of various academic information and give a good perspective on a schools ability to support high-level academics and athletics.

Only reason I posted that was because, until a few years ago when Louisville and USF dipped into Tier 4 for a short while every BCS school had been at least Tier 3. But I agree with what you're saying. At the end of the day though, those rankings are all biased anyway.

Is this the most current USNWR ranking? Doesn't the new one come out in August? Wouldn't the newest one would be for 2009?
