So Cal columnist takes TGD behind the woodshed
Linky
Ouch! For four years and 3,000 miles of separation, that's a lot of hate. Why couldn't this guy have warned us beforehand?
My favorite parts:
Quote:Gross' tenure at USC was marked by a relentless and shameless self-promotion that was perhaps unmatched in Division I, which is saying something.
In between sucking up to celebrities and former Trojan jocks and polishing his resume, Gross, of course, was the genius that convinced USC athletic director Mike Garrett to hire Paul Hackett.
Then there was the time when Gross pushed his way into a crowd of former Heisman Trophy recipients at the award's ceremony so he would be sure to be in the television shot when the Heisman winner was presented with the prize.
Ha! Syracuse fans know that to be true. That's been obvious here for a long time: Linky
I was willing to give Gross a mulligan on Gerg and let him hire the next FB coach, but Statuegate has really pissed me off. The Swoosh-tue wasn't even the first Ernie Davis statue; it was the second. You don't think that after botching the first statue, you should have gone over the second with a magnifying glass before placing it on the Quad? Combine this with the retiring of 44 and the cutting of the swimming and diving team and the unprofessional way he comes off over and over again (see above), and I've had it with him. I have no confidence whatsoever that he'll be able to pick the right head coach.

If I was the president of Syracuse, I might consider firing Gross before I fire Robinson. That way you don't run the risk of him making a second bad hire.
