RE: Pat White impresses NFL scouts at combine
I did hear that while White was only going to work out as a QB at the combine, he will work out at skill positions (WR, RB) at the WV Pro Day.

RE: Pat White impresses NFL scouts at combine
Pat white had an excellent day as a QB at the combines. If I am a NFL GM, I would take Pat White at later round than guys like Sanchez at earlier round.

Just to show you what media bias, stereotyping, recruiting hype, big program hype and every other bias reporting does, here is Donald Brown's number vs. Pat White. Remember many people questioned Donald Brown's speed, including many on this board. McCoy did not run in the combine BTW due to flu or something.

Pat White is considered one of the fastest athlete out there. Donald Brown was not even mentioned as one by the media. RBs that media hyped were Moreno, Ringer, Wells and McCoy.

Basically, Donald Brown was faster, quicker, more agile and jumped higher than Pat White despite being bigger. He was also better than Moreno, Wells and Ringer in speed.

Here is his combine video summary done by an UCONN fan.

http://www.santini35.com/Blog/?p=156

While reality is harder what media presents, Donald Brown is still being hardly mentioned by the ESPN media and others. With this combine, Donald Brown has shown he is one of the best athletes period. Moreno is only 5 lbs heavier, but he is nowhere as fast as Brown. With this combine, I think Donald Brown just earned himself a first round paycheck.

Donald Brown numbers were very similar to another NFL rookie Matt Forte out of Tulane. Matt had an awesome year and I expect Donald Brown to do very well in the NFL as well.

Darius Butler is another super athlete that will open some eyes when he go through his combine. In fact, all 4 UCONN guys at the combine have outperformed their peers at the combine. All those guys were 2 star recruits. Someone please try to justify how valid those recruiting stars are.

You should read this article from MSNsportsNET. It discusses the preferential treatment given certain athletes...

I loved this quote from the article...
Quote:I drove to work this morning listening to Sanchez’s personal public relations man, Colin Cowherd, go through the reviews of Sanchez’s performance yesterday before NFL scouts.

The Sporting News wrote that Sanchez was great. ESPN said he was OK while CNNSI said that he was so-so.

Which was it?

The problem with these media guys is that they been hyping certain players all year long, it would be stupid for them to admit now they are wrong.

Moreno has been hyped by ESPN since day 1 because he played in the SEC. No one would EVER mention that Donald Brown might actually be a better RB than this guy. Moreno to me has bust all over him. It still pisses me off that Donald Brown was not even a candidate for the Doak Walker award after leading the nation in rushing.

I get the feeling Pat White and Donald Brown will both make a lot of noise in the NFL. Guys like Stafford and Moreno are hyped but I am not sure they are any better.

People that doubt power of the media just need to look at this simple thing. Media hype is not only an issue in sports, it is also in everyday life considering majority of things Americans learned are from TV or movies.

I watched a lot of Georgia games. You can't avoid it in SEC country. I've never been impressed with Stafford. He can't handle pressure, and gets confused in a crisis. Moreno got the benefit of Georgia's excellent offensive line. But he's not what you'd call real quick. I'd bet Owen Schmitt is faster...

It cracks me up those guys on ESPN mentioned "SEC Speed" a thousand times. The funny thing is SEC's best back Moreno is actually slower than UCONN's Donald Brown. That's reality there vs. media hype.

Two BE schools with annual lowly ranked recruiting classes have the most guys at the combine. UCONN has 4 and Cincy has 6.

I remember them talking about how Georgia was going to show WVU SEC football, and SEC speed in the 2006 Sugar Bowl. If I remember rightly, the guy doing most of the talking was the guy Steve Slaton ran by on his 2 long TD runs...

I dont care what these numbers suggest, I would take Pat White over Donald Brown every day of the week, if I am a college fb coach.

cuse makes a point, dude. I'd take Pat White over Brown myself. White is a QB, and touches the ball every single play. For a QB, speed isn't as critical as the mental aspect. If you've been following the stories about Pat White's combine experience, you'll notice that everyone is impressed with him in interviews, his work ethic, his mechanics, and his decision making. The speed he has, which Brown has in a slightly greater measure, is an added bonus that makes him more versatle and dangerous.

Of course if my team doesn't need a QB, I'd take Brown over Moreno any day. But if I need a QB, Pat White is at or near the top of the list...

Just to summarize, I would take Pat White over Donald Brown myself as well. If you have read my comments about Pat White over the year, you guys would know I love the kid as a player. The whole point of this thread is not Donald Brown vs. Pat White. I put those out to show what media bias does. White is considered "super fast" while no one ever give Donald Brown the credit. In reality, he is actually faster, stronger, and jump higher. I put their numbers up there to show what they did at the combine. At end of the day, Donald Brown is RB and Pat White is a QB. Both are excellent athletes but media has a way of twisting the facts. Donald Brown, btw, is also heavier and shorter.

Here is a good video what NFL scouts look for at the combine: http://www.nfl.com/combine/story?id=0900...nfirm=true

Another fact: UCONN DE Cody Brown has higher vertical and broad jump than Moreno while only slight slower. This is a DE vs. SEC's top RB.

Connor Barwin fron Cincy had one of the best DL workout. He was another guy overlooked by the media.

I know. But cuse's comments were of a Pat White over Donald Brown variety. That's what started this. Look at the original quote... 05-stirthepot
