RE: Anyone have a Vizio?
I own a Vizio (37" I think). I've been very happy with it (especially considering how much cheaper it was than most other models).

My friends put a lot of stock in Consumer Reports and have said Vizio gets pretty high marks.

Off the subject a little, but I bought a 40" Proscan (never heard of it before) at Bestbuy earlier this week. It is full 1080p LCD with a very good picture and sound quality for $499.

You know if you buy one of those things and you pay half the price of a name brand TV and it breaks in half the time you still made out alright.

You guys can have those off brands... but in reality.... if you are looking LCD and its not Samsung, Sony, Panasonic, Sharp, and arguably Toshiba it will not last very long. If you are into Plazma.... same as above sans Sony as they don't make Plazmas anymore.

I'd also recommend Hitachi or Mitsubishi for LCD/Plazma but methinks they have both gotten out of the tv game. I haven't seen a Mitsu tv in forever and no longer see Hitachi in the marketplace at either Sears or Best Buy.

RE: Anyone have a Vizio?
just to let you know, i'm not going higher than $400. so it's either a 26 in of a really good brand, or a 32 in vizio.

You are definitely going to want to go with the 32 swoosh.

reason? i have a 24 inch tv right now. it's 4 yrs old and the screen size is good enough. I would definitely prefer a 32, but is there a reason other than the fact that it's bigger?

You must remember that in widescreen the TV will seem smaller at 27" than your 24" 4:3 ratio set.

I have a 32" 4:3 that converts to 30" 16:9 during HDTV programming, and it seems small. Of course, I do have a 110" HDTV projector in the basement that helps makes things seem smaller.

i won't have HD programming though. this will be in my dorm room for the next year, so it'll be regular cable.

A buddy uses a digital (or HD whatever) receiver to get HD without cable. I couldn't tell the difference. It might be worth getting the setup for Game Day if you aren't getting HD through your cable provider.

I don't know the exact set-up, but whatever he has he gets over the air and it's a great picture.

Another thing to consider is that you might be surprised by what you get with basic cable. I have one of the most basic subscriptions and there are a number of HD offerings that don't cost anything extra.

You say that till you watch football or hockey in HD then you will sing a different tune I guarantee it!
