We got along fine with Ohio State's AD and president and they didn't support us joining the conference. I'm sure Holland is friends with ACC ADs and they won't support ECU. Sometimes there's friendship ansd sometimes there's business. If your friendship can help generate business that's fine. If your friend can hurt your personal business, well, never mix business with pleasure.

You act like USF doesn't have allies. The fact that, if the rumors are true, UCF doesn't have an invite tells me there are schools who will support USF.

They do. And it would probably surprise him to learn who one of them is. 03-wink

RE: expansion rumors
If any Big East member(especially a football member) can show that an expansion candidate will harm them in any way, then that candidate should be(and likely will be) removed from consideration.

This I think will be the key argument if USF will pose one. I hope they release the minutes on these meetings like they did last time.

In terms of UCF fans knowing what is best for USF. I truly think USF fans should take a step back here. Yes USF/Miami is great football and that should be encouraged. But it isn't a conference game. I believe if BE could get Miami to the conference UCF fans would agree that is better for USF. The opinion of some UCF fans is that for BE to have a Florida rivalry game of two top 25 schools (given the BCS tag and growth), which they could get with UCF. That for BE image, stability and health it is FAR better than the USF/Miami game. I tend to agree.

Even if they do, the minutes will not reflect who said what or when. WVU was mentioned in the minutes to have asked for further consideration for Marshall. But we have no idea if prior to doing that Hardesty simply said we don't want Marshall on board but for political reasons I'll need the minutes to reflect I at least tried. *wink**wink*

Great point, because if it hurts one of us it hurts all of us.

By the way Neil if UCF isn't getting an invite, or things are shaky, who is the replacement? You can PM if you want. This is interesting!

If Louisville tried to get into the SEC and other schools accepted them we might see Kentucky try and block it. Same goes for Ohio State in the Big Ten with Cincinnati. Sometimes it's just a territorial battle.

You are exactly right. I think the USF/UCF situation is a bit different. UF would definitely do everything to keep USF or UCF out of the SEC. USF & UCF have completely different profiles than UF. The case of USF and UCF is one of 2 schools with nearly identical profiles, so much so that they were both in contention for the last BE spot 7 years ago. Now with a potential BE spot open again the last school choosen is trying to keep the next school in line out. It would almost be like Louisville trying to Memphis out of the BE or if CUSA picks up FAU, FAU keeping FIU out of the next expansion of CUSA. Western Michigan trying to keep Central Michigan out of a conference with them. etc.

I'm actually for TCU,Houston, UCF and ECU (although I would be ok with Memphis or Temple).

RE: expansion rumors
The original post on this thread was one regarding information that TCU already had an invite and that UCF was reportedly being blocked by USF.
I think this is an important issue to discuss but some seem intent on making it a USF-UCF spitting match ( I got carried away myself) I apologize and have removed those posts to the smack board.
Lets try to stay on topic about the issue

We are talking about adding Villanova in the NY/NJ/PA recruiting area along with Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Rutgers, Connecticut and I am supposed to feel bad for USF having to deal with UCF in a state with so many recruits the entire nation recruits it and still some are left over? Sorry USF but that does not pass the smell test.

Well you might not agree but the fact is that if UCF does NOT get an invite it wil NOt be just because USF objected and there were OTHER Big East schools that had a similar concern.

So while USF might be the main objector lets not act like USF is the only one that will be affected and make the final decision.

03-shhhh Quiet down. That almost makes enough sense to be a good point.

It doesn't matter whether you feel sorry for USF it matters what the other members feel. And, as I have said before, you're talking about schools who have been in the conference and had a chance to establish themselves. Even UConn had that opportunity since they were already in the conference for other members. I guarantee that if the Big East considered adding Buffalo that Syracuse would have an issue with that for a number of reasons, and one of the reasons would be the same reason that USF has with UCF.

No it doesn't make sense and I have shown people why in this thread and in other threads. There are enough recruits in Ohio to support several teams, do you think it would help Cincinnati to add Miami-OH? Look at it this way, if C-USA came to UCF and said that they were considering addinge Florida International or Florida Atlantic do you think that UCF would add them with open arms? Here's something else to consider, and why snowycuse and others' logic is warped. Lets say that, for some reason, Michigan State wasn't in the Big Ten, but they have the same program they have now, and the Big Ten was looking to expand, do you think that Michigan would be excited to add Michigan State?

good pt.

Only 72 miles separate Nova and Rutgers (closer distance than USF to UCF)...and if Nova became a BCS Football member, Nova would be the closest BCS school to Rutgers.

Add in the fact that PA and NJ combined produced 120 Div I-A Football recruits in 2009 (most went to non-bcs schools), while the state of FLA produced 346...which 230 of them signing with OUT-OF-STATE teams.

RU would most likely feel a recruiting impact if Nova jumped to a BCS Football Conf...much more so than USF would feel if UCF joined a BCS Conf.

LOL. Here we go again.

People get it through your skulls, IF UCF is NOT invited into the Big East it will NOT just be because USF said so, but because OTHERS also felt the same way.

My basic point wasn't that UCF wouldn't get an invite, but just that if USF objected to them, other football schools would support them. The Bulls wouldn't be out on an island by themselves in this scenario. 03-wink

RE: expansion rumors
Exactly Cuban. And people using the geographical logic seem to be forgetting that those schools joined the conferences at a time when the conferences were regional. 30 or 40 years ago it made since for the ACC to have all of the Carolina schools, North Carolina, Duke, Wake, NC State, South Carolina, it made since for the SEC to have the Tennessee schools, the Mississippi schools, the Louisiana schools, it made sense for the Big Ten to have the Michigan schools, the Indiana schools, etc, the Pac-10 to have the California schools. Those days are over. Now we're talking about adding Colorado, Utah and Nebraska. So it's not nearly as logical to add Louisville to the SEC or Cincinnati to Big Ten or UCF to the Big East. Heck, Virginia Tech to the ACC would have made sense if you're talking geography, but the ACC didn't originally want them. They only added them because of political pressure. So if UCF doesn't get in it won't be because of USF, and if they don't get in it won't be this huge travesty.
