Great news! Good to see your fans travel well to bowl games. This can only help the Big East image in the future.

RE: TCU sold its Rose Bowl ticket allotment
Actually TCU sold those initial allotments then requested more in both instances and sold out those additional tickets last year and this year. This year we werent even able to open up the tickets to the general public if you wanted a ticket you had to be Frog Club member or donate 100 bucks on top of the price of the tickets just to get a chance at 2. We may not be the largest fan base out there, and there is no doubt we will still be outnumbered by Badger fans but we really do travel pretty well to bowl games.

RE: TCU sold its Rose Bowl ticket allotment
Very nice! Welcome to the family guys! It's great to add another strong travelling fan base (will definitely help improve our bowl situation, which is pretty solid already). Now that Louisville is winning again, and throw in WVU, Rutgers, even Cincinnati is traveling well (we sent over 10,000 to freaking BIRMINGHAM, let alone sending people to the Orange Bowl and Sugar Bowl). UConn usually travels well so this is an enigma I would think, I still think they will send over 10,000 people there, hopefully more. I'm not sure about Pitt's and Syracuse's bowl ticket sales this year but they're national names with championship tradition so that helps with negotiations. Anyway, it's great to add you guys to the party!

Had WVU won the BCS bid, and ended up playing the Hokies in the Orange Bowl, that game would have sold out in the first couple of hours...
I'm sure that what Orange Bowl officials were hoping for too...

Wisconsin has a pretty good traveling fanbase. I met quite a few when the Badgers came to Morgantown a few years ago...

Give UConn time they will be fine. I still believe they will have more than 4000 at the Fiesta Bowl.

RE: TCU sold its Rose Bowl ticket allotment
The only reason we were sold out in 4 days instead of less is because the ticket office gave a deadline of December 8 to get orders in before they would make anything available to the general public. By Dec 8, Frog Club members and season ticket holders had reserved all 20,000 ticket and had TCU requesting more.
This is the same scenario that happened in the Fiesta Bowl last year. We took 30K to that game. I expect something very similar in Pasadena.
TCU has become a proven bowl commodity for post Christmas games. We've taken crowds of 15K to the '98 Sun Bowl, 20K to the '01 Galleryfurniture.com Bowl, 20K to the '02 Liberty Bowl, 30K+ to the '05 Houston Bowl, 20K+ to the '07 Texas Bowl, 30K to the '10 Fiesta Bowl, and now 30K to '11 Rose Bowl.
Our Big East bowl partners that are conducting games on Dec 27 or later can rest easy knowing that TCU will bring tons of fans. I'd venture to say we'd travel 15K+ to Charlotte, 20K+ to Orlando or Miami, and 35K-40K to New Orleans (Sugar) if invited to those games.

Pound for pound, I respect Wisconsin's fan base more than anyone. Incredible fans from top-to-bottom - they've sold out every single game in an 80,000-seat football stadium and an 18,000-seat basketball arena for years plus lead the nation in hockey attendance by a huge margin with 14,000 people per game. (Their hockey program brings in more money than most of the power conference basketball programs.). Madison is one of the great college towns for home games and the Badgers travel en masse to road and bowl games. Most people think of Ohio State and Michigan when you bring upnthe Big Ten, but Wisky's fans deserve a ton of props - they truly support ALL of their teams.

This is the disturbing part to me because it might be a recurring issue:
"Wells said the lack of support for the 22nd-ranked Mountaineers (9-3) seems to be mostly due to the game's midweek date and its proximity to Christmas - or at least that's why WVU athletic officials are hearing from the buying public."
The New Year's Day slot was one reason why the Gator was a better bowl for us than Champs. Not only is that a more prestigious date to play a bowl, but it also doesn't have that uncomfortable proximity to Christmas.
