I apologize for getting all worked up, as well. I did not mean to or should not emply that you were not sympathetic to the familes and soldiers froom the 9/11 bombings, Tampa.

I will say that I will just continue to believe that this was an event that has occured in the recent past and leave it as that.

Whatever the case, today is a victorious day for America. We are united and are proud.

RE: OT: Osama Bin Laden is DEAD! Breaking News!
Like many Americans - and probably folks all over the world - I was glued to the TV last night. 9/11 was a horrific event for so many, and last night was a cause for celebration.

A mass murderer who killed thousands of innocent people - fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters - - is brought to justice.

I couldn't be more proud of President Obama, his team, and the brave soldiers who carried out this daring raid. It is an important event in American history, one that will always be remembered. It will spawn a movie, for sure 03-wink

I am equally disgusted by the zany conspiracy theories and negativity I've encountered various places on the web. From commenters on Free Republic who don't believe Bin Laden is dead, or think it was some kind of ploy by the President to help his poll numbers or put the "birther" issue on the backburner, etc, etc, etc. There are folks convincing themselves that the people who congregated in DC and NY last night were plants paid for by the Obama re-election campaign. The derangement has no end.

But that is always going to be the case. There will always be those who allow their political ideologies to cloud their judgment and take them down the path of absurdity (for instance, the 9/11 'truthers' who believe that the Bush administration was responsible for the tragedies of that day... and endless conspiracies about Obama).

Not even now, with a great victory for our nation, can these people allow themselves to be jubilant. They only fear that it will help Obama's re-election.

Those losers aside, it is a great day for our nation and for the fight against worldwide terror. Couldn't be more proud to be an American!

I apologize for raging, but knowing the things I know, and other people not knowing it is difficult, especially when it is something as doubtful to the average American as that.

I should be more understanding of that.

@CollegeCard: Amidst being accused of continuing a conflict where it was being aired that weapons were not found (Russian tech was found in central and northern Iraq, and promptly shipped back to Russia through Syria), I think revealing that to the public would have been a move of desperation to save the public view of him sending coalition forces to those countries. It was probably better at the time to allow the next president to decide on policy, as Bush's trust level wasn't exactly "up there".

From what I've been seeing, people are praising both presidents for this revelation.

I really just can't agree there. If we had killed Bin Laden in 2006 or 2007 we would have released it then. Of course Bush's approval ratings were low, and this wouldn't have solved his problems but would have helped his legacy. That's completely in addition to just wanting to release the news fairly soon after it occurred for the other benefits.

Not to mention that staging an event leading to his death 5 years later and all that would entail now with social media, leaks etc, would be a lot of fun to try and pull off.

I think it definitely helps his public image, and Obama's, that it came out when it did. I would not suggest it was staged for this specific time period, but its timing is very relevant to the ongoing democratization process in the Middle East and Northern Africa.

I don't pretend to know what Bush's plans were in regards to this. I think I better drop the rock before I throw it. It is good to know that the public knows Osama is dead and done with. Now our military no longer has that name floating over their heads and can focus all of its energy battling the real enemy.

Here I thought you would have said you overheard it at the Tijuana Flats.

Listen Tampa, there's two problems with taking you seriously. 1) It's the internet. I can say whatever I want. I have 3 friends with top secret ultra-clearance who say you're lying. 2) People who would have that sort of clearance wouldn't tell randoms information like that. It's called treason, and the government tends to frown upon it. If this were true, and your information was correct, your friend would be arrested. Look what's happening with Assange right now, and the information he leaked wasn't nearly as news worthy nor as damning as what you're implying.

If you guys choose to believe what they are saying in our news media, that's fine. But that's hypocrisy, when the whole of America even acknowledges the falsehoods it can perpetuate at times.

Osama has been dead for what amounts to 5-8 years. PLUS, look, the media is reporting that our armed forces "buried his body at sea". Don't you think an image of his dead body from a week ago would suffice? They will not show Osama's dead body because of its decayed appearance.

And if they do provide an image, it will be from 6 years ago, when they actually killed him in Tora Bora, his suspected hideout in Afghanistan/Pakistan.

If he was killed during Bush's term do you really think that they wouldn't have already had this announcement back then? Dude if you're this into conspiracy theories and the ilk I have some very nice bridges to sell you in Brooklyn. Seriously. There's a reason 99% of the population believes the actual version of what happened and why we're all very happy right now because its what happened. The reason the wildest conspiracies like the one you mention aren't true is simple. Because humans are terrible at keeping their mouths shut and to orchestrate a conspiracy of that large a nature it would require a lot of people to be in on it and keep their mouths shut. Burial at sea is genius frankly so no one can make a shrine to the "martyr" or try to recover the body or something.

Wow.

This is not a conspiracy theory. I've had to keep my mouth shut about this until the press release, which took WAY too long.

So why is it ok for you to open your mouth about this now? Wouldnt it still be top secret info? Afterall, nothing has happened that would give you clearance to release this info now. 01-wingedeagle

My question is why would somebody with a top secret clearance talk to anyone about this? That person could get into a world of hurt doing something stupid like that. Losing his clearance would be the least of his problems...

Trying to stay out of this one, but I'm told one of the reasons for the burial at sea is to prevent memorials, etc. at a burial site and portraying him as a martyr.

I'll leave that one up to everyone else to discuss.

Leave Tampa alone. I am sure he consulted "Fair and Balanced" news for his information. He is probably referring to the the following headline, or something similar:

"FOX News: Elderly Man on Dialysis Killed by Young African-American Male"

And for the record Tampa, it is a little disrespectful to those who risked their going into the compound, the pilots flying into airspace without direct permission from Pakistan (to prevent anyone from warning Osama), and the dozens of Operatives who risked their lives gaining the intel you summarily dismiss as faked. I got a buddy in the Seals who I'm sure would love to have a face to face with you about this issue.

Plus, islamic burials tend to happen within 24 hours of the deceased dying correct? I think that's the case.

Yes. Often that is the case due to the climates where these religions originate. Ba'hai, Islam and others do not screw around due to rapid decomposition in heat.

Or you can return the body to the family. But that was not feasible in this case.

I have a source with top secret clearance. Convenient, right? Well, that source was actively involved with intelligence operations during Operation Desert Shield, Desert Storm, and Iraqi Freedom.

Can you ask your source what the hell is going on with the Big East Expansion? 04-cheers

TampaKnight. I had a Secret security clearance when I was in the Navy. There is no way someone with any kind of clearance going to risk their careers feeding you this information. And if he did feed you the info, he probably fed other people and this would've leaked years ago. Sorry man, I always liked your posts, but this smells like bs.

Boy, I'm really glad I missed the insanity of the conspiracy theory live. Animus nailed it. Nobody with any security clearance to speak of is going to risk what amounts to treason to tell a buddy "the truth." Instead, it's probably more like Bill Paxton's character in True Lies ("I'm a spy on a secret mission").

I'm always amazed at how people are so willing to buy into conspiracy theories when keeping a secret like that would be virtually impossible for any length of time.
