Why did our lovely Military Leaders release the name of the soldier that killed 16 Afgans? Great way to put his family into danger. And if our dumb ass leaders surrender him to the Afgans and not try him in a Court Martial I'll be a pissed off man.

I do not know for sure, but my guess is that it probably is public record, which any journalist (that puts forth a little effort) could obtain.

I agree with your sentiment about protecting his family, but if he did what he is accused of, he put his own family in jeopardy. Sadly, the people who will seek vengeance will not respect our laws any more than he respected theirs.

Fully agree that a Court Martial is the way to go.

You're right, HtownOrange. FOIA allows the journalists access to such information...

I agree about the Court Martial. But they should make it public to interested parties. So they feel like they are a part of the process. I think that's what upsets people most, feeling left out and ignored...

I kind of disagree with you. He broke the laws of THAT country...I think he should be tried there.
Of course the sentence would be execution...but who is to say he wouldn't be given the same sentence by our military courts?

In a civilian context, such as a tourist or expatriot employee, I can agree with you. However, military and certain governmental employees are protected under Status of Forces Agreements (SOFA) which spell out how such situations are handled. Thus, a military Court Martial is proper.
