Villanova has a strong history well before and during the FBS, they aren't upstart at all.

I feel the same way about UCF. We need some neighborly Florida competition.
University of Georgia has University of Florida.
Georgia Tech gets Miami AND Florida State.
Georgia State played in the non-football Sunbelt with USF from '76-'81 and some combo of UCF, FIU, and FAU in the TAAC/A-Sun from '91 to '05. I would love to get a gridiron rivalry going with any number of these former conference mates.

That is what I was thinking.

Florida-Georgia
Florida State-Georgia Tech
Central Florida-Georgia State

They are in a tough spot. They have a great program but it doesnt appear they can compete in FBS. The BE need strong programs that can compete now at a BCS AQ level. Unless Villanova can demonstrate that they have a plan that calls for a 40k to 50k seat stadium in the next 5 or 6 years then they should be rejected. Will be interesting to see how that one plays out.

Semantics. It will actually be less than that I suppose. Point is you guys fit the model of southern crescent urban universities going from startup to FBS in 5 years or less.

Georgia State freshman class sets records
By Laura Diamond
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Nearly 4,075 freshmen -- a record for Georgia State University -- will be walking around the downtown Atlanta campus when classes resume Aug. 22. The freshman class is about 7 percent larger than last year's and is the university's most diverse, officials said Friday.
The campus is known for its diversity and the freshman class set records in two areas -- 16 percent of freshmen are Asian and 9 percent are Hispanic. The majority of freshmen are minorities, with 34 percent of the students black and 41 percent white.

they're doing everything right and they're going to be successful sooner than later unlike some other schools that have been doing this type of move half-assed

I'm certainly rooting for them to succeed;

If Georgia State can get an invitation to an FBS conference and start playing an FBS schedule in the Dome, they'll average plenty more than 12K fans... or 17K for that matter.

This is a college football town. It just depends on the match-up. You let is play Marshall, UCF, ECU and a couple of BGS schools in the Dome and I guarantee you we will average more than 17k

GSU needs to get the 20k+ student southern FCS schools to join the FBS as a conference. You all aren't the UL Monroe/Idaho/Tulane type schools and should be in FBS if any of the MAC or CUSA can be.

GSU Scores 10 2012 Commits in July; 12 overall.

THis is highly unsusual for FCS in that most high school players wait for Fall FBS offers before committing to an FCS school.

We expect that maybe half or more of these early commits will not stick. We are being extremely aggressive and have made about 70 public offers. Its a realization that we are competing with Georgia, Georgia Tech as well as every non-AQ school in the 6 state area around us and the high FCS schools as well. Overall I like the approach. The other thing, I am told, is that a lot of these kids are being given the campus tour and their eyes pop out of their head after seeing the practice facility followed by a tour of our locker room and the field at the Dome.

RE: All Things GSU
Code of Honor

Story:http://www.gsu.edu/magazine/604.html

Video:http://vimeo.com/27585979

Quote:Vince Lombardi called them his War Council. In 1965 - Bill Curry's rookie year with the Green Bay Packers - that group included future Pro Football Hall of Famers Willie Davis, Bart Starr and Forrest Gregg. The team won the NFL Championship that year, and the Packers went on to become the decade's football dynasty.

"They were great leaders and great men, and I just observed how they worked," Georgia State's head football coach now remembers. "They provided consistent leadership and positive leadership for the team."

They also sharpened Curry's perception of what it means to be a leader. As a unit, they set the standard both on and off the field, and they kept the players and Lombardi, the Packers' fiery head coach, from ever coming to loggerheads.

On each of his teams throughout Curry's long and illustrious coaching career, he's sought to assemble his own core group of players - team members who lead by example in the classroom, in the locker room and, as Curry tells it, "in the fourth quarter when we're coming down the stretch against an outstanding football team."

Now, as Georgia State football gets set to enter its sophomore season, Curry has established a Leadership Council of 13 young men who are committed to the pursuit of excellence as students and as athletes, and who are leaders for the entire Panther football team.
