UConn, Villanova Highlight USF Men's Home Schedule

TAMPA - Connecticut, Villanova and West Virginia, all projected as Top 15 teams next season, highlight the University of South Florida's inaugural Big East 2005-06 men's basketball home schedule.
In their initial Big East season, the Bulls also will host DePaul, St. John's, Georgetown, Seton Hall and Rutgers.

USF's Big East road opponents: Louisville, Syracuse, Cincinnati, Notre Dame, Providence, Georgetown, Seton Hall and Rutgers.

The conference schedule will consist of 16 games, and dates will be determined in September. In the Bulls' first two seasons, their ``mirror'' opponents are Georgetown, Seton Hall and Rutgers, meaning they play those three teams home and away. USF will not face Marquette or Pittsburgh in its first two seasons.

Of USF's 13 Big East opponents, five are ranked in CBSSportsline.com's preseason poll - No. 3 Louisville, No. 5 Connecticut, No. 10 Villanova, No. 15 West Virginia and No. 21 Syracuse.

The Big East is releasing the entire schedule today:

I suspect we will see everyone's before the day is through.

I wonder how Seton Hall and GT fans will feel about playing a home and home with USF as opposed to say St Johns or Nova...they are going to be

This concerns me because how do you build a rivalry between USF and Pitt if they are in the same conference and don't play each other for 2 years.

I know we have debated the unbalanced schedule and how messed up it is.

I didn't realize that missing games would remaing missing if they weren't on the initial schedule. So does this mean that whoever you "miss" this season, you will miss again next season? Is there a reason for this? Honoring the non-mirror games as "home and homes" is the only I can figure.

See link.

Not sure how the local paper in Tampa got this info out first instead of the school's website (still not listed yet).

-- I hate to say it but that is not unusal for the BE....Uconn didn't visit Morgantown for 6 straight yrs...you can't find another major conference in which classes of players graduate without a conference mate visiting your home court

When did Georgia Tech get involved?! :D

Seriously, though, methinks you're right Jackson. Everyone saw this coming but there ws nothing else that could be done about it.

"Welcome aboard, USF. Mind if we call you Short Straw?"

Easy wins? :D

I hope everyone hopes that USF is going to be a pushover.

USF was competitive for 6 out of it's 10 seasons in C-USA and saw some very good BE quality players go through the program. Greenberg did a good job in raising the profile of USF but could never get his teams over the hump in big games, despite having players like Altron Jackson, BB Waldon and Reggie Kohn.

In contrast, our new coach with considerably less talent than Greenberg's team managed to beat two top 25 teams in one week near the end of the season. USF finally has a sound X's & O's head coach, and recruiting is getting better. It's going to take a while but USF will get there. It wouldn't surprise to see USF make the BE Tournament this season. Go ahead and laugh b/c for us diehard USF hoops fans that would be a major accomplishment in our inaugural BE season.

For us Rutgers fans not making the BE tournament is almost preferred because Hill will get that very welcome promotion. Although on second thought, I'd rather us make the BE tourney and at least the NIT winning the NIT because our recruiting will be screwed.
