The top ten teams really seem to be right on point. blending historical success with current success. I agree with most of the next ten but after that there are more questions in my mind....but I would take that top ten without a doubt (and everyone knows I hate big blue, but what's right is right)

UTEP #74????? WTF???? I know UTEP hoops was down during the 90's but UTEP was the flagship BB school of the old WAC in the late 60's, 70's 80's and early 90's. UTEP should be ranked above Houston, LaSalle, Kansas State, Bradley, Duquesne, BYU, Loyola, Davidson, and Florida State. However, I agree with the top 10.

Maybe I am taking this wrong, but my understanding is that this is based on previous rankings from every year, not something subjective. If that's correct, then there isn't much to argue.

That's what it looks like, a composite result from all the AP polls throughout the years.

Sorry all.....I can't remember where I pulled this from but it is based upon objective data...i.e....#weeks spent #1, total final fours, national championships, etc. in each schools history then put in a rank/file.

How does Louisville not have any value for #1? I know they've never been ranked in-season as a #1 team, but they won two titles for crying out loud. The top 10 as a collection is very good, but if Cincy and Louisville are as close as a point, I think two national titles and the #1 post-season rankings should get us over the top.

we had a thread like this awhile ago. it looks similar to the street and smith list.
here's a <a href='http://www.ncaabbs.com/forums/bigeast/invision/index.php?act=ST&f=29&t=4372&hl=street,and,smith' target='_blank'>linky</a> to the thread, but the link in the thread is now outdated, and this list is somewhat different, i guess due to the added year.
here's one article which listed the top 10 though:<a href='http://www.collegesports.com/sports/m-baskbl/stories/013105act.html' target='_blank'>Idaho State Men's Basketball Program Ranked #73 in Street & Smith's 100 Greatest College Basketball Programs of All Time</a>

This is merely a composite of the AP poll for all the years its been in existence. Interestingly enough Louisville has never been ranked #1 in the AP poll even in final 4 or championship seasons.
That is why you see Louisville ranked higher in other ratings based on a number of factors including success in the post-season.

They were probably unstoppable in the 1910's or something. By all time, just how far back does this list go?!
