I came into the political forum thinking I was all that, and he surely put me in my place. Just a terrific gift of whit that cannot be matched. He will be missed.

Sorry to hear of this loss for Cincy nation. The best way to judge an individuals impact on society is how much he/she is missed when they are gone. How many schmucks pass away and nobody cares? Prayers for his family.

RE: Gruehls has passed away
I'm heartbroken.

I love the guy and thought the world of him. We talked a lot about meeting up but it never happened. G was such an amazing person. We could get into it at times but the respect was always there and we always made up. You could always count on G for good advice, a good laugh and having him be a voice of reason.

If you're into sports-- or anything really there's a message board for you somewhere. And with it there's usually some mod who think he rules the world and quickly becomes drunk with power. G was never that guy. He made this a place where all types can exist. He made this place special.

For a while now i've been thinking this board is different. i doesn't have the feel or excitement it used to have. I thought it was because my bearcats are not the team they used to be. Now I think it was because G wasn't around as much.

I'm honored that I shared a little space with him in the cyber world for 12 years. I know health issues are private but I wish we could have known that he was not well so maybe we could have said a prayer.

I don't know what else to say. I'm just not ready to end this post. To all you posters who never really got a chance to interact with Greg, You've missed out on something special with a special someone.

Rest In Peace dear friend.

"you have indeed been an excellent poster, and from my point of view, a valuable addition to this board.

i hope you'll reconsider; maybe take a step away for awhile, then contribute as you see fit. UC sports needs all the fan support they can get, so i'm glad to hear you've not yet become so frustrated at the oft times juvenile squabbling here (and on most boards to some extent) as to just throw up your hands.

in any event, i hope to see you posting again, and go Cats!

best,

g "

It was because of Gruehls that I decided to stay. His PM's
were always welcome, and he will be deeply missed.

Gutted to hear the news. gruehls treated us Niner fans like royalty whenever we were in town and was one of the most generous and gregarious (fitting) people I have ever known. I was really hoping to meet up with him again in March when we came to down to abuse the Mouseketeers.

Greg will be missed by all in Niner Nation who got to know him. Deepest condolences to his family.

RIP Gruehls. I met him one time after he offered free tickets to CUSA championship game. I sat next to him in the game where Bobbitt was punched in the groin. I'll never forget it.

God bless you, G.

Very accurate.

We've been reminiscing about him all day in Niner Land, his passing brought several former posters back into the fold for a day. That is telling.

He's a legend in our queen city as well and he will be missed.

I'm certain the Bearcat fan forum in heaven was started on 12/26 moderated by none other than Gruehls.

Thoughts and prayers to the ones he's left behind.

Easily the brightest light in the room whether it be in the real world or on-line. A damned good attorney and even a better person.

Best I can summarize, while he would be honored and genuinely touched that we would name the board in his honor, anyone who knew him knows that if he was here he'd be breaking us all down by now explaining why others were more deserving.

Fair winds and following seas, Captain.

He was a fair voice of reason on this board...I also thought this board was changing a bit, and missed G's posts. This board had its major blowup last year at the start of BB season over attendance, and then gruehls calms the storm and wishes everyone Happy Thanksgiving. Truly sad to hear of his passing.

everybody, vent your spleens. pent up anger and resentments, post 'em, within the confines of the AUP. I don't care if the posts actually relate to attendance. you got a gripe with someone(s), voice them on the board or to whoever is the focus by pm.

this seems to have become the spleen venting thread whether intended or not.

it is a rare event for me to edit, and rarer still for me to delete. that's been the history here, and it ain't gonna change. but those of you with long held perceptions of being slighted should address those perceptions before they are long held, and lead to some volcanic eruption.

i respond to every pm sent me way which requires a response. i'm sure B_R does the same, as do all the mods.

so before your tea kettle starts to steam, bring it out.

i want to stop the blood loss here.

and happy Thanksgiving to one and all.

I looked at Gruehls as the Board's Godfather in the best sense of the word. I don't think I've ever been more heart-broken to hear of the passing of a man I've never met. UC and the city of Cincinnati has lost a tremendous Ambassador who will be greatly missed. My prayers and condolences to his many friends and family. May you rest in peace, Greg.

Never met him, such a shame. We went round and round from time to time but all in fun. I have lost three "friends" this month, it kind of takes the wind out of you.

May the four winds take the G man safely home.Rest easily.

I am now smiling , thinking back on the way the G man could issue smack, in his own, inimitable way. I remember thinking many times, after reading smack issued by some intruder , "uh oh, they better hope the G man isn't around". If he happened to be, and he unloaded both barrels, I would LMAO. Thanks for all the smiles G.

I had the pleasure of meeting Greg once. Back in '05 myself and some other Niner fans drove up for the game in Cincy. Greg treated us to beers pregame and postgame would not let us hit the road home without a good meal.

Greg was truly a gentlemen and a great representative for the University of Cincinnati.

Here are some pictures from the last time I met up with Greg and some others on the board.

GTS was driving through Cincinnati and met to give him a UC sweatshirt as thanks for the work he did for the board. this was September 12th 2010. Too long ago.
