Quote: I am a Big East (Rutgers) graduate, and a buddy graduated from North Carolina. We have a running debate about which is the best conference. I believe that with the incredible depth of the Big East, that it is the best conference, and that while the ACC's top three teams are great, it is always a bit overrated, and not quite as good top to bottom as the BE is. My Tar Heel friend obviously disagrees. Who do you agree with?

Jeffrey B. Grimm, Atlanta, Ga.

I'm with you on this one. I think the Big East is the deepest conference, although the ACC, individually, has better teams at the top. You could argue either case and really not be wrong. Providence beat Virginia by about 20 a few weeks ago (which doesn't prove a lot) but it is a good talking point. I also think the Big East is much more physical and plays better defense. When Duke scores 100 against Wake Forest and 58 against St. John's, I go "hmmmmmm." — Jack Carey

This is why Syracuse lately has done well in the NCAAs. We lose some games to Pitt, BC and UConn because they are more physical and know how to attack us. The BE refs generally let more stuff go--In the NCAAs the games are called differently (tighter) therefore Syracuse's style plus their zone defense gives them an advantage over their OOC opponent.

Pitt and BC have not and will not get past the Sweet 16 for this reason. UConn can because they have a better coach and players than Pitt and BC.

BTW, I would hate to be a 5 or 6 seed opening up against WVU in the tourney--probable upset.
