" I spoke with a big Providence alum and supporter and he says it is a fact that they will expand to a 12 team football conference. He says the word in providence is that this expansion will include The University if Memphis.
I know it is not official but it is interesting that this is being discussed in Providence."

Let Traingeese know that I will give him my wife for an invite and an 8 figure check from the BCS. Memphis fans are starting to realize that C-USA baseball teams outdraw their basketball teams. I don't want any part of that ******.

The SEC wouldn't petition anyone. They would just buy somebody off & eventually get caught.

I'm gonna say this guy has no clue what he's talking about (the booster, not the poster).
9? I think so. 10? Maybe. 12? Simply aren't 4 viable candidates to make such an expansion worth it financially.

I think the order of importance goes 1) Geography, 2) Market Size, 3) BBQ, and then 4) Academics.

fine with me, evidently when we were getting new C-USA teams it was 1) College baseball, 2) College Track & Field, 3) Strength of programs 20 years ago, 4) Proximity to Texas.

Damn, you have me there. The honest thing is, I probably couldn't find Rhode Island on a map.

I mentioned this in another thread, and if there is ANY truth to the rumors (and we'll see if there are any, I have my doubts right now), then I could see the Big East scooping up East Carolina and Memphis and going to 10 All-Sports teams. Then having Notre Dame and Navy play partial schedules. Maybe enough games to be considered a part of the conference without ACTUALLY being a part of the conference. That way Notre Dame and Navy could keep their independence, and Notre Dame can keep all of their other sports in the conference, and the 10 Big East All-Sports teams could play a conference championship game if they want to. I'm assuming they would allowed to do that if Notre Dame and Navy played the required games against the Big East schools. The conference would look like this:
Football
West Virginia
Pittsburgh
Louisville
Cincinnati
Syracuse
Connecticut
Rutgers
Memphis
South Florida
East Carolina
Navy (football-only, partial)
Notre Dame (football-only, partial)
Basketball
West Virginia
Pittsburgh
Louisville
Cincinnati
Syracuse
Connecticut
Rutgers
Memphis
South Florida
East Carolina
Notre Dame
That would only be 11 basketball teams, but it works for the Big Ten! Presto everybody is happy for the most part. And the Big East still has the flexibility to add Notre Dame and Penn State as All-Sports members if by some minor miracle they decide to join!

Eh... USF doesn't need to participate in the conference tournament, anyways.
