Little known Memphis fact, BB Kings has some of the best ribs in town, way better than The Rendezvous (IMHO of course).

Sub beat me to it but Montgomery Inn BBQ Steams their ribs, the sauce is sweet.

http://www.montgomeryinn.com/

I do think there is good BBQ in Cincinnati and I am partial to Walt's http://waltsbarbeque.com/

I've been to the original Dinosaur Resteraunt in Syracuse when I was stationed at Fort Drum NY, Loved it and still have a friend send me bottles of sauce.

When we were in CUSA a trip to Hattiesburg would get me to The Shed http://theshedbbq.com/

Central Florida doesn't have much in the way of good American style BBQ, but the Cubans really know how to roast a pig their own way. Best Cuban sandwhich I've had in the Orlando area came from Oasis Cuban Cafe which is located a little north of Orlando in Longwood, FL. It's a small local restaurant far from all the touristy stuff, but only about 30 minutes from UCF. Definitely worth checking out if you're looking for some good roast pork.

Lots of really good beers and bourbons as well. Best BBQ in northeast easily.

Best BBQ in the NE by far. Been to Dinosaur in Syracuse/NYC, Blue Smoke, ect and still think Fette Sau is the best in NYC.

Still pales in comparison with random joints I've visited down south during a road trip though. That stuff was amazing.

Wife and I are foodies and its probably going to be easier to convince her to go to Houston/Memphis/Dallas on BBQ/food alone than it was to convince to go to Syracuse/Pittsburgh. (I live in NYC so to go to those places I'm gonna have to fly no matter what).

Heck add San Diego to the mix.

Memphis folks that recommended Bar B Q Shop to me... thanks, it was awesome.

Ahh, the Bar-B-Q Shop...

I guess it's time for an early lunch!

Heck, a really good lunch or dinner buffet Leonard's Pit Barbecue is pretty darn good.

The buffet menu changes daily. I prefer Tue or Thu...

BBQ Ribs
BBQ Pork
Fried Catfish Filets
BBQ Chicken
Assorted Sides
Assorted Desserts
Rolls & Buns

Dinner buffet includes:
BBQ Ribs
Country Fried Steak
BBQ Pork
BBQ Chicken
Fried Catfish Filets
Hot Wings
Assorted Side Dishes
Assorted Desserts
Rolls & Buns

If nothing has changed since I was there last, the buffet has both wet and dry ribs.

If I ever make it back to SD again (hope so, it's beautiful), I think I'll look for other food besides BBQ.

Good, because having eaten "real" BBQ in TX, SC and TN, our BBQ compares better to Chili's than to what you guys have.

LOL... that's kinda funny. I was about to post that the BBQ goodness meter goes farther down the farther you get from Memphis.

Nashville BBQ can be choked down, but some of the worst BBQ I've ever had was in NC and in GA.

The freakin' sauce in NC looked like water.

Of course, I've seen places where the sauce was yellowish.

Phil's is good for California BBQ, but doesn't compare to the south

There was a place in San Diego featured on a couple Travel Channel shows that was famous for barbecue based on beef tri tip. I forget the name, but if I saw one of the shows it was on, I'd be able to tell you what it was. Anyway, both shows said it has some great 'Que! If I ever make a trip out there, I'm going there for some beef tri tip!

In Memphis, I'll go with Central BBQ. The link has been posted earlier. The problem with this thread is that there are no BE cities that can match Memphis bbq. It's like you're all sending a one-legged man to an butt kicking contest.

Hmm. I looked it up - that's practically all the way to Chula Vista. I seldom go that far to eat.

It's amazing, though, what places there are to discover in the most unlikely locations. There's this incredible Thai restaurant in a strip mall near the car dealerships on Mission Bay Dr (just south of Balboa) - the vegetables taste like they've just been picked (and I'm anything but a vegetable person). It's called Lanna.

Agree, but you don't think we have beautiful women in Memphis, or have things to do to have fun? Maybe you need to take a trip down south sometime. 04-cheers
