Franschilla is dying to have the job, but I don't think he's the guy to help SMU in the Big East.

He doesn't excite me for the Big East.

It really depends on how serious SMU wants to compete. If they want to be a significant player, then they need to allocate big dollars to grab a coach who can recruit highly ranked players.

If you look at CUSA, guys who have proven it before in the big 6 like Eustachy and Floyd would probably jump at the chance. Risks there of course, but taking a relatively new coach, a mid major coach may not be a good move.

I don't know...Floyd is a UTEP guy through and through and left USC before things got ugly. That second fact probably makes him a non-starter at SMU. Eustachy has some character issues in his past which also probably make him a non-starter with some members of our adminstation (namely our president).

Fraschilla has had some success before in the BEast but let's face it - he's got some limitations that make him less appealing.

I'm of the opinion that SMU needs a guy who has had sustained success at the lower level. We went the re-tread route with Doherty and it didn't work.

One thing that is a must is that we need someone with great connections to the AAU world. That's how Pastner has had such great success in recruiting (and it's why Pastner will prove to be a great hire for Memphis long-term).

larry Eustachy is a great coach...I know ISU fired him due to his "frat party" pic but honestly, he should not have been fired over that. I'm telling you, I'd give that guy a look

He lives like a mile from our campus and has wanted our job for a long time. The question isn't if he'd do it...the question is if he will do it well.

My guess is that they will. I don't think he was interviewed last time around basically because Orsini (who wasn't even officially here yet) already had his man picked (Doherty) when Tubbs was let go due to very minor NCAA violations

It's hard to tell. The big knock on him is that he's been out of coaching for a long time - does he still have the connections needed to recruit?
