The writer of that article is setting himself up for a major disappointment if he thinks a Big East invite is coming anytime soon.

You know, for a conference that is constantly bashed by members of C-USA they are trying very hard to get into it.

Maybe one of our ECU visitors can tell us if the writer....Al Myatt...is usually plugged into the ECU administration or is he the kind of writer to just blow smoke.....

-- Again the bottom line is that we need a 9th football school....and if Army and Navy have turned us down....ECU is as good as anyone available to us...especially if they get a high profile head coach

Its hard to say....so much back room stuff going on its probabbly hard to tell.....

"Belive it when you see it" is my take on any of this.

But then again..who'd 've thunk ECU would land Terry Holland as an AD either?

I discount nothing at this point... :D

Having ECU join the BE wouldn't bother me any...The have good fan support and besides the JT era have fielded a pretty good team......I would prefer Memphis, but I don't think they are willing to only join as a fball member...which is what the current BE needs...

once again...ECU basketball is mediocre...and their football has fallen pretty far...but they are in the footprint.

Memphis football brings over 40,000 to ever game and will play in back to back bowl games...basketball would be 1 more top 25 basketball program for the Big East..and we would have natural rivals with Louisville, Cincy, USF...and could develop one with WVU...but we arn't in the footprint.

if i was the Big East...i would take Memphis...but i'm a Memphis fan...so i guess my vote doesn't count.

Go Tigers!!!

-- Maybe its just because of where I'm located in north/central WV.....but I don't see how Memphis is any less in the footprint then ECU( if we want to stretch the footprint that far)......the only way ECU would be in our footprint was if VT was still in the leauge

-- Distance from Morgantown to Greenville is 478 miles
-- Distance from Louisville to Memphis is 380 miles

-- so Memphis is closer to its nearest BE school then ECU is......Memphis as a long history with UC and Louisville....ECU a long history with West Virginia.....

-- My guess the reason ECU is getting the attention is that they have offered to take football only membership for a few years...again I think Memphis is making a HUGE MISTAKE by not doing the same thing

-- Remember the article that came out a few months ago from NC...that said Memphis was the leader for expansion when the BE football schools split and the folks at ECU where wondering how they were going to compete with the Airport in Memphis and the Liberty bowl.....well this is how ECU is going to do it....it would be wise for Memphis to make the same offer

isn't all of this speculation anyway? we don't even know that our program has been offered football only to the BE, so how can we know say this is a huge mistake???

ECU's record speaks for itself... playing close games doesn't cut it, winning 20 games a year does. Therefore, ECU basketball gets and deserves no respect...

-- Yes...I would still say it is speculation at this point...but the same newspaper in NC that was very pesimistic about ECUs chances in the BE a few months ago is now saying it could happen by this Febuary....that signals a major shift somewhere along the line

-- I have yet to see anything about Memphis being willing to accept football only membership in print or on radio/TV...I have read articles about ECU willingness to accept football only membership since this conference reshuffling begain....in fact...maybe even before that

-- All I'm saying is that if Terry Holland and ECU pull this off.....In my opinion the chances of Memphis coming in at a future date are lowered

With USF already getting in ahead of us, if ECU gets in, even as a football only member with a chance at full membership down the line, you will see our Athletic Director run out of town......not saying that because I think it won't happen, but because our fan base will go apeshat and he will be the one feeling severe heat......now, if it was never offered or we were denied, then there isn't much you can do......

Putting Memphis aside for a second and no disrespect to ECU, but it seems like adding UCF would have made more sense back before they accepted a full conference invite from C-USA.

1.) UCF gives USF a travel partner and a rival in their own backyard.

2.) The northeastern schools would love to travel to Florida every year for recruiting purposes.

3.) UCF's other sports were already in the Atlantic Sun conference. No need to try to work out some kind of deal with the A-10.

Quote:Whoever fills the head coaching vacancy at East Carolina could enter a very favorable situation. New athletic director, Terry Holland, is on a mission to turn things around, and after the last two seasons under John Thomson, the only way is up in Greenville. Plus, once things stabilize, the program is determined to make a run at membership in the Big East.

-- This quote appeared in CFN's quickouts.....I'm getting nervous that their something to it

Minges sure looked like a great place for college BB and the "crazies" just add to the setting.
