Dick Vitale is going crazy the entire second half as Maryland builds a 30+ point lead. His orgasms turn into fits of ACC joy; Virginia, Maryland, Duke, UNC, Wake Forest et al. are all mentioned by Dooky V. "What an incredible league!! Oh Baby!! yada yada" Then the topic of the New Big East comes up and the tone was almost mournful; "You look at the New Big East and somebody’s going to have to finish in the middle, there’s going to be a lot of coaches on the hot seat in that league." Where did all the enthusiasm for the best and deepest leagues in the land go? I mean the same guys were about to have aneurisms of excitement talking about how deep and talented the ACC is, doesn’t the same logic apply to the Big East? They took a page from the John Calipari book of crybaby logic; "poor us we didn't get invited but look at what could be the only negative about the best league in the nation so in that regard CUSA is a great home" and applied it only to the Big East when its a weak argument that could be applied to any league that is the best in any sport i.e. football in the SEC.

I heard that, and got a good laugh. I don't understand the logic that "The Big East is to deep, someone will finish in the middle!" You could say the same thing about every other power conference. Look at the Big 12 and ACC. They had teams finish in the middle. ESPN is so determined to protect the ACC that they're shooting themselves in the foot. I'm praying that the Big East is trying to get off of that network. And, as you mentioned, the SEC in football. If you look at the Big East many of the teams won't even be PLAYING each other more then once, so it's like the league will beat each other up or anything.

On a side note, how ironic is it that there are people who say they are C-USA fans who come over to our board and say that the Big East will be horrible in football because they don't have a team with a recent history of being a Top 10 program. But then turn around and say that C-USA basketball will be fine even though THEY don't have a program, save for Memphis, that has a reputation for being a consistent Top 25 program or NCAA Tournament team? Or a football program that is a consistent Top 15 or 20 program? So it's possible for C-USA to improve in football and basketball but impossible for Big East football to improve?

Anyone who thinks C-USA improved is sniffing some serious glue. Memphis, UAB, UTEP... it's a nice foundation, and with Tulsa hopefully regaining form after this swan dive, UCF and Rice continuing to improve, and new coached at USM and Houston getting things going there, the league could become pretty solid. But at the moment, it's a three-bid league in the best years.
