With all of the talk about expansion and which teams to expand to, it seems that the worth of expansion is a foregone conclusion to some.

Financials are obviously raised as a primary factor for this need, and this makes sense, but based on simple math alone I have a question.

Since the eight football schools divide up the current football money(assume fairly even division), to achieve equivalent money when dividing up by nine teams they would need to increase their overall value by 12.5%.

Other than Notre Dame which I suspect all would agree, which potential BE teams(if any) would increase the TV contract by more than 12.5%?

The reason IMO why the Big East has to expand is because of the coming 12 game College Football Regular season. At only 7 games we will be hurting to fill out schedules. I use to favor Memphis but now I feel we should add Army and Navy as football only members. This might help Notre Dame to move close to Big East football membership.

-- Penn St could increase the TV contract by that amount

-- Army and Navy would certainly make the contract go up....but I don't know if each one could pull 12.5%

Another advantage to expansion is that it gets all the other conferences off your back. If you have at least 9 teams, like the old ACC did, then you look better. At some point the Big East will have to get to 9 teams for scheduling purposes.

Well, considering how many years the Big East has been at 8 teams, I not sure they would move just for scheduling reasons. And for the 12 game rule to actually impact the Big East all of the other BCS leagues would have to decide to add a conference game rather than a non-conference game. That is a valid concern, but we'll have to see how it pans out.

At the end of the day, I'd still be surprised if we added a program unless they added significant value to the Big East package(+ 12.5%).

And I certainly agree that Penn State would meet that criteria...and even Maryland, and would love to add them but I have a tough time thinking we can extract them from the Big 10 or ACC.

Or if we added both Army and Navy would that add 25%? Does anyone know the value of the Army/Navy game TV contract?

-- Not sure about the value of the Army/Navy game contract.....however if they would be added the TV contract would also have the Navy/ND game every other year

-- It seems to me that Army and Navy bring more to the table TV wise then any other candidate that is available to us....much more valuable then Memphis, ECU or UCF

Expansion order:

1) Notre Dame (enough Said)
2) Penn State ( " )
3) Navy / Army (Fball only keeps Hoops schools happy)
4) Wait for next shakeup.
5) Memphis (for balanced fball schedule, if split occurs)
6) ECU ( " )

Smoetimes paitence is the BEST decision.... JMHO 04-cheers

Look at this University of Somewhere in Florida poster. LOL. You have no right posting these posts with absolutely no tradition what so ever.

Just makes me laugh. I am sure Notre Dame is drueling all over themselves for the cance to play the University of Somewhere in Florida. Especially in an empty stadium.

Absolutely comical.

Oh and before you start bashing ECU for their football play the last couple of years let me say that USF could not begin to hold the jock strap on the tradition at East Carolina. Couldn't even start.

Continuing LOL at this USF post

My god people get a grip. You have nothing and are nothing. In twenty years and some gigantic strides and some tradition behind you start posting like this until then shut the hell up.

Your Community College is a damn joke and will never add up to East Carolina. Enough said.

Damn, a little harsh. USF fans for the most part know their place and have perspective on the conference situation and know they are darn lucky to be where they are. ECU fans on the other hand have never shown any humility while as a program ECU brings less to the table than a program like USF.

I think that River City Pirate needs one of two things: decaff or anger management.

That's funny. I think USF has the largest enrollment in CUSA. Oh well, he's just bitter.

I can see you guys calling me bitter and harsh but I see no defense of the post.
Truth hurts but hey it had to be said.

I am not going to sit back andhave somebody from the University of Somewhere in Florida act as though he does not want East Carolina in the Big East.

The facts are that ECU next to Louisville was and is the best football school available to the Big East before expansion and after expansion.

Louisville had the best football record folowed by East Carolina.

That is the facts.

Hey at least I am willing to admit that we were second.

Too bad your basketball is absolutely pathetic... you might have gotten some consideration for a spot over USF!
