Several members chanted "where's your green card" at Kansas State guard Angel Rodriguez while he was at the free-throw line during the first half. Rodriguez, who is from Puerto Rico, had 13 points and four assists in Kansas State's 70-64 victory.

My 2 cents...

1. Heckling someone is supposed irritate them. The fact that he is Puerto Rican and chanting "where's your greencard?" IS a heckle and a way you could get under his skin. If he was not an American and here on an education visa, then it wouldn't be much of a heckle.

2. Asking anyone about their green card is NOT racist in any way.

3. Hispanics are NOT considered a "race" by the United States government (or any hispanic group).

4. Most Americans do not know that Puerto Ricans are Americans. No surprise here since most Americans are educated in government-run schools and are ignorant. (That is another rant for another thread.)

Full Disclosure: My wife is Puerto Rican...and by her own definition a "real" Puerto Rican because she was born in Puerto Rico and grew up there speaking both Spanish and English (and Spanglish). No one in her family would have been offended by the heckle and in fact I'll ask but I'm willing to bet that most would think it was a good heckle. From personal experience living in Oklahoma, Texas, and Louisiana - the vast majority of people we meet assume she is Mexican because she is obviously ethnic looking but she doesn't look Mexican at all. Overwhelming most people we meet do not know Puerto Ricans are Americans or the history of the reason why - including alot of Nuyoricans.

Love the South??? Have you ever been to California without blinders on? They don't hold back either. They'll surely let you know how they feel. It's not like they do their homework before raking someone through the coals either.

I'll second that post CatDaddy ... I'm tired of the kind of thinking that some in other parts of the country have that because of our history in the South and the actions of a stupid few in the present day that we all are a bunch of racists. And those that stereotype all people in the South as racists have a prejudice against Southerners and all they are doing is showing off their ignorance.

Amen to that! South has taken enough abuse from ignorant people. I remember segregation while staying in Chicago and have seen racist bumper stickers in upstate NY. St.Louis was one bad call after another over E.St.Louis,I'll when I visited there for a Week a few years back. No one part of the world is free from racism.
