Murph 1.....that's a great article about Temple....it really shows that the Owls haven't put anything into their football program and have really been a leach onto BE football to get the BCS cash....in other words it totally reinforces the league's call to give Temple the boot......In order for them even to be considered for the eastern all sports league....they have to start putting money into the football program

Tigerjeb.....if Memhis is invited to join the BE football schools in a new league...I doubt you guys will ever see a EAC tourney...this is not a knock on your city or the Grizzlies...I just have a hard time seeing Uconn,SU, Rutgers and Pitt ever agreeing to move the tourney out of the northeast...I just don't see that ever happening

La. Tech's geography was perfect for C-USA, too. I wanted UTEP, though, horrible geography aside, because of their competitive teams (well, I had to bank on Mike Price doing well in football) and very strong support. Looks like C-USA made the right choice.

if you guys honestly think that temple will help big east football then you need to take a big step back and take an objective look at things.

-- Right now Temple brings nothing to the table in terms of football....all I'm saying is that if the Owls can pull themeselves up to a level of respectability in football between now and the split....then they should be strongly considered....if their football stays the status quo.....then they can stay in the MAC or wherever their program will be in the next few yrs

-- Just telling it like it is tigerjeb....the BE will take a Temple with a decent football program ( odds of happening unlikely) over memphis any day of the week....

-- Now if Temple football does nothing ( I think we can agree that is more likely)....then Memphis and UCF become candidates for the 9th spot

There was a very big article about Temple football in today's USA Today. They are on the verge of either dropping football or moving to 1-AA where they belong. They had to sign 17 juco players in last year's recruiting class because they couldn't convince high school kids that their program would be around in four years.

I want Memphis to get into a BCS conference and I think that the Big East is our only realistic shot in the near future, but I'm not really worried about Temple taking our spot. Hopefully, the powers that be will look at more things than geography. Our football team is much better on the field and our basketball team is a little bit better on the court, but if you look at the overall programs I don't think it's close.

Memphis averaged 41,000 in football attendance for two straight years. We had 53,000 for Louisville and 47,000 for Southern Miss this year. Heck, we had 37,000 for 1-AA UT-Chattanooga. I haven't looked at Temple's numbers, but I bet they probably didn't have a crowd that big all year. We'll probably average closer to 45,000 next year. Memphis isn't just building a football team, but a football PROGRAM.

I am starting to think that the only vote Memphis would get from the 8 Big East football members would be Cincinnati. It is obvious that Louisville- from the AD on down- want nothing to do with Memphis, ever again. The northeastern schools surely would never vote for us. Cincy, maybe WVA, maybe USF. That is it.

-- If West Virginia could choose any school in CUSA to take....it would be East Carolina....the Pirates and the Mountaineers have been close for years

-- Memphis may get more support from the northern schools then you think...SU and Uconn are always going to be concerned with bball quality....and Memphis does help with that

Jackson,

I would say thank you for that vote of confidence. On a side note I certainly have enjoyed pre-game festivities with WVU fans on each occasion I have had the chance. I have said it before ECU and WVU could have the best tailgaters in the world.

-- Your welcome...its no secret that ECU and WVU are close and have been for years....you can argue all day long about whether UC and Louisville would support Memphis or who the northern schools would want.....I think everyone knows West Virginia would pick East Carolina

-- Amen about the tailgating....I heard the WVU-ECU game in Charlotte a few yrs back was especially good 04-cheers
