Settle this once and for All: Fresno or AFA
The two best options outside of Notre Dame and BYU. This isn't about UNLV or UNM or what convoluted arrangement of invites or conference shifts are required to get your wife's step-children's best friend's cousin's university into the mix.

Air Force Academy, or California State University - Fresno.

It depends on who you ask for Boise State and SDSU its Fresno.I love the Idea of spiting up the road trip rotation between the two schools and being guaranteed to be in the State Of California every year. For the Conference as a whole its Air Force.

I vote Fresno State

Between those two AFA by a mile, but I also think there are more attractive options than Fresno State. UNLV would get in before Fresno, no doubt in my mind.

This sounds like the correct answer, would be nice to get both, but that doesn't happen unless we lose another school :(

Even better question:

Which addition would help the Big East Conf bring in the most TV $$$$?

Air Force or Cal State Fresno?

There was a good reason why the Big East went after Air Force first initially, as thats probably the message they got back from their TV Partners.

Las Vegas is the 3rd or 4th Largest city without a professional team. The market has a ton of potential but right now that s all they have. I live in Las Vegas and no one give a **** about the UNLV football team. No billboards No radio Commercials No signs and absolutely no sense of pride around the team. The Stadium is 10 miles from the strip and only half the parking lot is paved. This program in my opinion is a sleeping giant but they ve been asleep at the wheel for decades.

I ve also been to Fresno multiple times and they love and support their Bulldogs. Football schedules at every restaurant, Billboards, Radio ads and updates. FSU clothing everywhere.

At this point I have to say Fresno is ahead of UNLV by a mile.

UNLV needs their on-campus stadium built...and the latest version is a mega event center Dome that would seat 50,000-60,000.

Here's some recent news article from earlier in the month about it:

They ve been talking about a new football stadium for 10 years and nothings happened. You can put that on the list with a Downtown Sports arena for a NBA or NHL team. The bullet train from los angeles to Las Vegas ect ect ect.. The only way that stadium gets built is if Jerry Jones gets close to moving the Rodeo Finals to Jerry World. Then the city will find a way to do it to save the Rodeo. As silly as a Rodeo sounds Its a huge week for the Casinos along with Nascar week.

AFA. Fresno is not a bad option, but I want AFA. I think Boise and SDSU should be given max input into who the western member is though.

The only ones we should want are: BYU, AFA and Fresno in that order. All have upside on attendance, recruiting area, pretty good football teams on occasion, but only BYU and AFA have National Rep working for them. Bottom line of course; We will be told who to take after "the negotiations" by whomever we sign with. BTW, I'm a newbie so tell me why the ACC took Syracuse and Pitt. Doesn't really make sense to me.

I voted for Fresno St. to help bridge the gap between Boise & SDSU. Despite it being a rough few years for Fresno St. they have had much more national appeal over Air Force..At least through ESPNs eyes....I think FS would do much more in the Big East over Air Force because young athletes want to be athletes.

Air Force is my vote and they will be approached once again. With the merger off and Navy in, AFA may be more agreeable to joining the Big East now.

I voted for Fresno State for obvious reasons but also because AFA although they have National Recognization (by the way so do Fresno State via ESPN) Fresno State has put a number of players in the Pros and therefore have a legit program verses AFA (not sure how many players they put in the pros but I am sure it does not comes close to Fresno State).

RE: Settle this once and for All: Fresno or AFA
I have no dog in the fight but having been born in California and from someone who follows west coast and southern football I think you guys would be making a HUGE mistake in taking AF over Fresno. Sure Air Force has a nice national following and can at least be a 6-6 team most years but Air Force is probably never going to play in a BCS bowl.

Adding Fresno nets you a huge media market that even getting 1/4th of the followers would be huge for a TV contract. It also gives you a team that will have a pulse, especially with the growing California population. There are enough quality recruits to go around and the number increases every five years or so. Iv'e lived in Fresno, there's some great talent but Fresno is a place that is hard to leave. If Fresno St was an AQ team they WILL land four star recruits.

Another benefit is that they have an easy home in the Big West with SDSU for their OLY sports. The Cali schools would be very pro Big East and happy because the Pac-12 would never happen and that's it as far as western AQ. And playing in the Big West plus having 6+ home games and the western division makes travel cheap.

The western division would have four teams actually considered Western.

SDSU
Fresno
Boise
Houston (I know it's in SE Texas but much more Western than Memphis.)
