Will Memphis be able to handle BE football?
A little change up to discuss recent conference move instead of chasing down the wild rumors floating around in the blogoshpere.

The history of Memphis football is pretty bad. There's no way to sugar coat this. Now Memphis is going up the ladder to compete against better competition. How will Memphis cope? Will they see recruiting advantages now that they are in the BE? I like Memphis but I'm skeptical that their FB prowess will get better once they are in the BE. Time will tell, but I think Memphis was a BB add to pacify Georgetown, Villanova, etc.

I think it's easy for everyone to come up with new configurations for conference alighments. But what about discussions on how the recent conference moves will pan out? I think this is also a good discussion that is being overlooked at the moment.

What are your thoughts?

I think Nova should've just moved up if Memphis was a "solution".

Cincinnati was pretty bad until a couple years before their BE invite. Memphis has been really bad since UL, UC and USF moved to BE. They will get back on parity with UC and USF.

I actually think Memphis can do well in BE
the secret is gonna be to improve fast
the longer they struggle, they could become downtrodden program
I'm more worried about Navy, Temple & SDST than Memphis

The better question to ask would be can Memphis handle Sun-Belt football? Recent results say no.

The main problem Memphis has is having to compete against Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Arkansas in recruiting. But usually a move up in conference's usually gets you better players. They will probably get better but it may not be obvious at first going by their record.
Pretty sure we all know they were brought in for basketball and the Memphis market.

Not really sure why there is an attack on Memphis here. Duke has not competed in football for years and before RGIII Baylor was a constant basement team. Look at Indiana. Why not attack them. Then again, those are not Big East teams so there is no reason to attack them.

Its a legitimate question. Besides, we know Duke won't compete until they stumble on another Steve Spurrier (who led them to their last ACC title in 89).

Memphis has been on hard times with Tommy West and Larry Porter as two bad HC hires in a row. Before then, they were actually at least OK and went to bowl games, etc. They'll be all right. They at least have $$ behind them and a decent facility.

The only reason Memphis was called out is because they are a Big East team. We all know this. And yet we all play along like a bunch of Lemmings.

in all seriousness Memphis should have been added with UL, UC and USF after the first ACC raid. At that time they were a decent football program.

Nope we mocked them when they were in C-USA. It's easy to mock the weak and helpless. It's not like their football team will ever do anything to make us stop. 03-nutkick

OK then. Going by that logic you no longer have the right to complain when someone says ECU is weak and helpless since they were not worthy of a conference upgrade.
You know as well as everyone else that this particular tool goes out of his way to mock the Big East since he is no longer a member. Just like when Pitt was in the Big East he would tell people like me that Boise could not be in the Big East because they did not have the academics...........and yet here we are.
You know how Memphis will compete in the Big East? No worse than Pitt. Pitt has never outright won a Big East championship and in basketball they are a middle of the road team in the Big East.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_East_Conference

That is since 1991 for football. Let's wait 20 years and see if Memphis can accomplish what Pitt couldn't. An outright championship.

They can handle Big East basketball however, and ECU cannot. So Memphis basketball will add more money to the Big East than ECU football would, hence memphis was tken instead of ECU. Deal with it! 07-coffee3

When solely on the field performance determines who gets expansion bids let me know and then you can mock ECU if we don't get in. As for Memphis I'll mock them if I want to. We've kicked their teeth in for years, why should I show their football program any respect? I wouldn't expect them to show our basketball program any respect. They want respect they can earn it on the field. I respect those who deserve respect. I respect Boise. I respect USM. I respect what Houston has done in recent years. I have zero respect for the embarrassment that is Memphis football.

Duke, Baylor, and Indiana football have all been message board piƱatas at one time or another. They haven't been excluded.
