RE: OT: Greek Life
Greek life at Charlotte is pretty weak.

We only have two off campus fraternity houses.

When I was in school (graduated 09), they completed the Greek Village

All the houses look like this:

My understanding is that several of the fraternities and sororities have moved out of these houses because they are school owned and they are not worth the expense or hassle from the school.

I need to look up some statute of limitations before I start telling the good stories...althought none of mine involve aquatic athletes, fungi originating in cow poop, or root vegetables.

...oh, and if you Rice folks think your college system is so much different, it's really not. You guys are just as f*****g nuts as the Greeks are...with far fewer rules to constrain your mischief.

Greek letter (social) organisations are not allowed on the Rice campus. In the late 70's, the campus was 'dominated' by a couple of single sex male colleges and female colleges. The administration resolved this by neutering the male and spaying the female (colleges). It's all co-ed now. Nothing like mediocre homogeneity to smooth the waters. Kappa Alpha Order

I know. I went to grad school at Rice and have friends who were undergrads there. My comment was that your colleges, functionally, don't vary much from Greek organizations other than being co-ed and having far more heterogeneity among the population.

I think it's probably any number of people's cadences. Who's to say who invented it? I took it to my chapter because as a legacy, my father's chapter had used it in the early 70s.

RE: OT: Greek Life
I was the 1st pledge initiated by the Founding Class of Pi Kappa Alpha (PIKE) Kappa Gamma Chapter at FIU in 1994. Missed out on being a Founding Father by 1 semester. Served our exec board for 3 years and then was Chapter Adviser from 2000 - 2004. I am still involved and serve on our Advisory Board that manages the house and chapter operations. ***Best decision I ever made while in college was to not only go GREEK, but become a PIKE. We opened our home in 2005 and recently reorganized the chapter after a 1 year hiatus and initiated a new Junior Founders class 1 month ago. Here is a link to our home and chapter

http://fiupikes.celect.org/uploads/image...722142.jpg

**Our home is on campus and adjacent to the main entrance of the University as you drive through the first traffic circle. Greek life is roughly 2,500 students and 30+ fraternities/sororities.

I spent all of my time at ODU hanging with the Pikes there, so I'm an "Associate"... I never considered actually joining for whatever reason. Still keep up with most of those guys.. and I cannot say enough great things about those guys. The parties on 51st, 48th, etc were epic. Awesome people.
