"Clemson BOT chairman ends Big 12 talk"
http://www.tigernet.com/view/story.do?id=10666
Clemson Board of Trustees chair David Wilkins told Tigernet:
"We are 1000 percent in the ACC."
"There are no offers, no discussions and we are concentrating on being the best we can be in the ACC".
I'm going to go out on a big limb and predict:
FSU is not joing the Big 12 without a regional partner, and Miami, GT and VT have said no thanks.
FSU is not going to join with UL and WVU, ISU, KSU, KU in a Big 12 division against the TX-OK schools.
It's over. Next rumor please.

Good riddance to this rumor. Next rumor: Notre Dame and Louisville to join the ACC. Watch it be on Greg Swaim's blog in a week.

I don't think this ends the rumor one way or another. It's nice to hear, though.

Unfortunately you're right. I'm sure the Greg Swaim's, Brian Etheridge's, and The Dudes of the rumor mongering world will paint a picture of how they're still right and this is simply means nothing.

Everyone started pointed to Swaim again as credible when the crap he was slinging temporarily matched the popular rumor bloggers. He's proven himself consistent though and moved further out into left field so even the blog believers are shying away from him again.

I haven't really seen it talked about but what about the possibility of three divisions of 5 schools if ND is added?
Of course a conference Playoff would be ideal. Three automatics and a wild card.

That would be against the rules as they currently are written. Here are the guidelines to remember:
1) you must have exactly 2 divisions - no more, no less
2) you are only allowed 1 conference championship game - not a playoff series
3) everyone in each division must play each other - i.e. "round-robin"
It has been suggested that 4 pods which are constantly being recombined into 2 divisions might be allowed since there is no rule limiting how often you can redo your divisions - so every year should be ok (in theory). Of course, to do this you need a number divisible by 4 (12 or 16)

Well, if you are going to entertain the fantasy of Notre Dame giving up the proposed $20 million plus contract from NBC that has been making the rounds for the "Be patient" contract of the ACC you might as well entertain the fantasy that the NCAA would make the neccesary rule changes to obtain what was posted above.
We might get UConn and Rutgers. Then we can "be patient" while waiting for two more hoops schools to make a commitment to football with all our other hoops schools. We would never add Louisville because they have their priorities straight, just like we would have never added Virginia Tech until they blackmailed UVA into an invitation.

Hmmn... when you put it that way, it paints a pretty bleak picture.
And you can add WVU to the list. They have good football and basketball and were never considered.

RE: "Clemson BOT chairman ends Big 12 talk"
We know there are certain schools - UNC, Duke, UVa - who see themselves as public Ivy League schools. We know the history of the ACC and how those schools used to dominate the league.
THAT WAS THEN, THIS IS NOW. With 12 (soon 14) schools, the whole dynamics of voting has changed. It's time for schools like Clemson and FSU to stop complaining and start campaigning.
You want to invite Louisville? You want an 8-game conference schedule with Ga Tech in the Atlantic division (or just North/South divisions)? You want week 12 free to schedule a cup-cake? Put it to a vote. You can probably count on Yes votes from Miami, FSU, Ga Tech, Clemson, Wake Forest, NC State, Va Tech, Maryland, Pittsburgh, Syracuse and Boston College for all of your pro-football initiatives.

Ah hell, we ain't got a thing to worry about. Any time now John Swofford is going to make everything all right.
We just have to get Chad Swofford on the payroll of whatever replaces the BCS first.

I will agree with you that UConn and Rutgers do not qualify as "football" schools. But PLEASE, NEVER, EVER confuse Rutgers with being a "hoops" school.
