JUNE 19th RIP Lenny!!!
I met Lenny and the entire MD team in '85 when they came to Wheaton HS for a recruiting trip. Great group of guys stayed fairly close with Gatlin for a few years after that played some pick-up with them around campus a few times. Lenny was one of the nicest people you'd ever have met. Drugs especially COKE was HUGE in the 80's and no one was sure of the dangers of it and trust me back in the day any drugs in the state of MD came via UMD. So when this happened I certainly WAS NOT surprised just sad.

He avg. 23pts/gm pre-3 point line!

RIP Lenny what could have been. I believe we would be saying Micheal who!??!?!?!?!?!

I remember Lenny. I wouldn't say "Michael who?" but the Michael/Lenny battles would have made us say Magic and Larry who?

OK I'll give you that. Both were excellent players and it is impossible to judge someones heart and their willingness to push themselves to improve the MJ did.

At first I didn't know what this thread was about. After reading up on Len Bias I'm extremely sad. What a tragedy!

One of the saddest things in life, to me, is when a good thing goes wrong. This is a prime example. Celebration after being drafted to the NBA and fulfilling one of his life's goals ends in Bias' death. Sad, sad story.

His mother is a very powerful speaker. There is some stuff of her on youtube but it is relatively recent and not as strong as her talks from the mid-80s. I believe she actually lost 2 sons to drugs.

I think her other son was shot and killed. Apparently the father does talks about gun control and the mother does the talks on anti-drugs.

RE: JUNE 19th RIP Lenny!!!
I saw him at the Long Beach Civic Center literally outrun the sky against UNLV in the NCAA Tournament. It left me awestruck...If you thought that the Celtics were a dynasty before he'd gotten there, I could only imagine what they would have been had he not befallen this tragedy and gotten to live out his NBA dream.

You don't have to be a fan of a certain team to be devastated by such an occurrence, and this was a devastating memory in my life. I'm glad that someone here still remembers him and thought enough of him to honor his memory.
