Instead of an all sports western div in the future why not rebuild the WAC?
NMSU and Idaho are there for the timebeing along with Denver and Seattle. Cal St. Bakersfield and Utah Valley U have wanted membership for awhile as well. If BSU stays and Fresno is added for football and places it's oly's in the WAC SDSU would prob join up.
1- BSU---Arena seats 12,480
2- SDSU---arena seats 12,414
3- Seattle---arena seats 17,000 (former arena of Seattle Sonics)
4- Denver---arena seats 7.200
5- Utah Valley U---arena seats 8,500
6- NMSU---arena seats 12,400
7- Idaho---arena seats 7,000
8- Cal Bakersfield---arena seats 9,300
9 - Fresno - 15,544
The BW schools gyms range from 1,600-5k with Hawaii being the outliner. Instead of BSU and the BE throwing $ at the BW why not build up the WAC with that $ and keep it in house?

RE: Instead of an all sports western div in the future why not rebuild the WAC?
The problem with "rebuilding" the WAC is that it's configured for FBS football, not as a non-football conference. NMSU, Boise, Idaho, and Denver would need to add sports, so it's not simply a matter of just adding schools (unless they add even more). SDSU isn't coming as they prefer to play closer to home to keep travel costs lower. And the WAC leadership has shown no sign of even attempting this. Seattle is supposedly asking the WCC for entry, Denver is looking at other options, as is NMSU.
That said, I think it's a better idea than Boise trying to bribe the Big West.

Texas Pan American & Chicago St are also available from the Great West Conference. Both the WAC and the Great West have been decimated by schools leaving and the best thing would be for them to merge under the WAC banner as a non f/b conference.

The WAC is dead as a football conf, they have accepted this. Idaho is going indy and NMSU is going indy or football only to the Sun Belt. Even without SDSU the WAC would provide better comp with BSU/NMSU/ID/Sea/Den who would all finish in the top 3 in mbb in the bw IMHO.

Hold off on adding Cal State Bakersfield until the Big East decides which school will be #14. If it is Fresno State or Air Force, there is no need for Cal State Bakersfield, whereas they would be acceptable if the choice is BYU.
Seattle \ Idaho
Boise State \ Utah Valley
Denver \ New Mexico State
San Diego State \ BEFB #14 (Fresno State or Air Force)
NCAA rules allow a conference to keep its autobid with seven schools, so no rush on Cal State Bakersfield, and nine doesn't work well for basketball scheduling. Get a waiver off the NCAA to buy time to sync the other sports.
