Just for giggles, I stopped over and had a look in the Sun Belt forum... Talk about arrogant/delusional - it's common consensus over there that the Sun Belt is better than CUSA (while I realize CUSA is weaker than it was, it's still pretty far ahead of the SBC). Those fans have no respect for CUSA or its top teams (ECU, USM, Tulsa etc.).

Just found it pretty comical.

Some do, Most dont.

My opinion stands that the Top of CUSA is better then the top of the SBC. I think the Middle and the Bottom of the 2 confrences are just about even.

I do belive that CUSA lost more ground then the SBC did with the confrence changes and that the gap between the two has grown much closer then past years.

Its pretty comical to see how some Cusa fans think theyre closer to the BCS conferences than they are the Sun Belt. Arrogant/delusional? Maybe. Borrowing a phrase from a certain Mr. John Wayne, "I'd hate to live off the difference," between your average Troy team and your average ECU team at a neutral site.

Houston beat Penn State in bowl play.
Southern Miss beat Nevada in bowl play.
SMU beat Pittsburgh in bowl play.
Marshall beat FIU in bowl play.

I'd say Conference USA is closer to the upper echelon 'right now' than we are closer to the Belt.

Regardless, when Houston, UCF, Memphis, and SMU leave, that changes.

The Sun Belt, much like the Big East, only improved during the last round of realignment.

C-USA is the only conference that got worse, so the SBC is probably ahead right now.

And? Surely youre familiar with the drive from Jacksonville NC to Greenville? Certainly its closer than San Antonio.

I do remember that drive quite well...nothing in between, just the country roads that I was driving on. It might be closer than SA, but its also harder to get to.

Didnt stop me. I may be an App fan, but for nearly 3 decades I've been generally familiar with whats going on in ECU. I dont attend anymore, (my Saturdays are spent watching App,) but I still do watch whenever I can. I believe the last non App game I saw in DF was Louisville... when I cant remember, must be six or seven years now. Time flies.

The gap between C-USA and the Sun Belt is most likely smaller than it used to be, but all Sun Belt teams offered spots in C-USA accepted so the pecking order definitely remains the same.

And that gap will only widen once the FCS move-ups get up to speed.

This isnt really a conversation, is it? Here's the thing...in terms of the football, UTSA > Georgia State, correct? Anyone disagree with that?

Charlotte and Old Dominion aren't in CUSA until 2015. They are working on 40K stadiums. They will be better "when they finally get to CUSA" than likely most all Sun Belt members....for football in terms of facilities.

So beyond those three, CUSA added FIU, UNT and La Tech, likely the best prospects, current members that the SBC had. As well, you have ECU, Marshall, Tulsa, Southern Miss, UTEP....programs that have achieved at a high level in athletics at some point. In other words, they have "proven" themselves at some point. Rice has a proven baseball program. Tulane has performed at a high level and brings a lot to the table. UAB has been there in basketball.

If a Sun Belt fan can list me the programs that have won at a high level currently in the Sun Belt...in basketball, baseball, football...hell womens basketball, whatever....who has went unbeaten at the D-1 level? Been to a Final Four? Been to 10 Bowl games? What SBC programs have done that?

To disprove the theory; you didn’t see C-USA schools jump for the Sun Belt, but we did see Sun Belt schools jump to C-USA.

Pecking order:
SEC
gap
Big 12
Big 10
Pac 10
small gap
ACC

HUGE GAP
New Big East
Small Gap
C-USA/MWC (depending on which conference you are in to which order)
gap
Sun Belt
MAC

Belt above the MAC? I don't know about that. The MAC has had some very good teams recently. Northern Illinois probably would've swept the Belt last year.
