The only positive I can glean from Memphis being gone is that it might be easier to win the conference and move our program up, but for the conference overall it's not a positive in the near term. But, now ECU can maybe aspire to win the conference whereas with Memphis around that is an unrealistic expectation.

There are other positives. It helps everyone’s strength of schedule for football, but at the same time takes away a guaranteed win. Guess there are pluses and minuses to everything.

The good news is Tiger football is on the rebound and will return to winning ways. Our TV revenue for ONE year is about to be such that it will equal what 5 to 8 years of our current CUSA revenue would be. ECU TV revenue picture is not so rosy. You are right. Pluses and minuses abound.

Why is that so funny? For the first time since the 70s the powers that be are seriously investing in Tiger football.

In the past year Memphis has built or upgraded

Football only weight room
Meeting/film rooms
locker rooms
recruiting lounge
hall of fame
tailgating area
new locker rooms at the liberty bowl
media room at the liberty bowl
video screens at the liberty bowl
practice fields including a new turf field
new turf for the liberty bowl
and the new indoor practice facility is about to be constructed.

Together with a new AD and exciting new coaching staff, I'd say that's on the rebound.

Yep. However, I would like to know the thoughts of bondsjons on the matter, minus the potty mouth and personal insults mind you.

When the ACC commish says that 85% of its TV contract is from FB, that should tell you something.

What ECU fans want is for ODU to keep recruits home instead of going to VT and UVA and a lesser extent Richmond....and Charlotte to keep recruits home instead of going to the ACC and a lesser extent App State. If that happens, the programs will be good, it will generate interest and the more interest in FB, the more value it has for TV contracts. That makes ECU money.

Wow, just ... wow.

Tiger football on the rebound??? Sorry, don't mean to talk smack, but where are you seeing this. Every sporting outlet I've seen says 1-2 wins at best. Yes, Memphis football is taking full advantage of the BB and your location because the football certainly didn't earn it. Thats why they are getting more money and beleive this big payout when I see it. Good luck with that.

Thanks for the good luck wishes. I am seeing the rebound in the investment being made in the football program. I think it's mentioned.....above....in this thread that is. We are taking advantage of our basketball aren't we? It's a good thing because we invested a lot in that program too and that has been shown over many seasons here in CUSA. I think our football has shown before that it can win and that was with a halfhearted commitment...nay...NO commitment to the sport. That has changed now. Time will tell but the buzz around the program is there.

Our basketball has shown more success than ECU has in ANY sport. Keep that in mind.

Where are we seeing a rebound? A completely different look and attitude at practice than the past 3-4 seasons, new and improved facilities, better coaches.

It's funny, the second ECU got passed over for the Big East was about the same second many of them began to talk about what a crap conference it was......knowing full well that they would join tonight if invited.

That remains to be seen and is highly unlikely. This $10 million per year per team to watch Memphis v. SMU is a pipe dream.....especially when the same game is paid $1.5 mill now.

When the same package includes Louisville vs Boise St in football as well as UConn vs Georgetown in hoops?

Those numbers aren't being made up on message boards. They are coming from writers many of whom are employed by the very networks bidding for the Big East TV rights.

I wish them well in their new league, and thank them for the exit fees and basketball credits. Money is tough nowadays, and with both leagues getting approximately the same TV contract, it will help!

Subtract the exit fees from CUSA revenue and that might be accurate.

But if they choose to expand too much, then the conference will be on the verge of completely losing its identity.

Then (and only then), I could see the pendelum swing as the majority of the UTEP fans will have a preference for MWC. I can only guess that Tulsa and Rice fans may feel the same way.

I hope this is only a way of keeping other schools engaged in the event of further poaching. I hope the intent is not to bring too many small schools into the conf just for the sake of bringing them in.

What he said (back then)... Oh wait.

Besides, talk about feeling sorry for somebody. I feel sorry for Houston. You guys will get crushed consistently in BE basketball with no rivalries in the league other than SMU. Have fun with that....lol

I feel like this post didn't age well. Houston fared well for themselves in basketball (albeit AAC instead of BE) and had other rivalries than SMU. Also, they're going to the Big 12 less than ten years later
