Rutgers has been put on probation by the NCAA, we also lose 4 scholarships over the next 2 years for football, this sucks but the University did the right thing. Apparently, these violations occured during our previous compliance coordinators tenure. Also Greg Schiano and Gary Waters were not coaching at RU yet. Basiclly the current staffs at Ru have to take hits for previous peoples errors and thats just what they were errors as opposed to willfully breaking the rules.

RU is on probation not for willfully breaking the rules, but for making alot of minor errors in the classification of recruits' eligibility. I remember a few years ago we had a JC O-line recruit that played a few games before his grades were verified. The kid had the grades but the University made an error by letting him play before getting the green light fom the NCAA. The kid ended up missing most of his season that year. There were several violations of this type in several sports, I guess in the NCAA's mind several minor infractions is equivalent to one major violation thus the probation and the loss of scholarships.

Rutgers has had some hard times on the athletic fields the past few years, and the probation is a good example why. Our previous AD had no clue on how to run a Div 1 athletic program, but yet he was on the job for 20 years. He should've been fired years ago. Things got better when our new athletic director was hired. Since Bob Mulcahy came aboard things have slowly but surely been getting better, its going to start to show on the fields and on the courts in the very near future. I've included a link to an article that might explain it a little better.
