I read up on Marshall and you're right, they're pretty athletic but thats about it. They score alot of points but they give up alot of points to decent teams. A good thing for us is that coach Waters is familiar with them from his days in the MAC, and the team is taking them very seriously.

Herd-Fan, I just got your PM, thanks for the in depth run down of your team. Like I said you guys are pretty athletic, I'm surprised you gave up 90 points to Niagra though.
I'm a little familiar with Blackshear, I remember him from his days with Temple. I agree he is tough from 3 point land and in. I don't think he will see a tougher defense than ours all year long. Many in the Big East are calling Mike Sherrod and Jerome Coleman the best defensive guard combo in the league. Jerome is a BIG offensive threat...a consistent 3 point shooter that has matured and gotten better at selecting his shots which makes him a more consistent scorer. Ricky Shields is a very athletic wing player who can also stroke the three, and takes it to the hole strong, can hit the mid range jumper and plays solid D. (Many believe that if Shields continues to develope as expected he can reach AA status, he is only a sophomore). Many describe Herve Lamizana's game the way they describe Kevin Garnett's. Herve is a 6-10 athletic small forward that can handle, shoot the three, block shots in the paint and most importantly for us, has learned to play with his back to the basket and score in the paint. He is also a MUCH better defender than he was last year. We have two solid post players in 6-9, 270 pound Kareem Wright and 6-7 forward Sean Axani that give solid minutes every game. Potentially, the best player we have in the post is a true freshmen, Adrian Hill. He has shown flashes early this season but he is young and trying to get used to the college game, with a little more experience he is going to be a monster on the boards. We also have solid young players that come off the bench and give good minutes in Calvin Wooten, Juel Wiggan, and Cortez Davis.
Of course our strongest asset is Coach Waters, he takes pride in being able to go ten deep and being able to apply 40 minutes of pressure. Rest assured that the Herd will get a healthy dose of this pressure on Monday night. We are pretty excited about our BBall team this year, they are determined to make this season a statement season. On monday I hope your team comes ready to play, because we will definetley be ready. GO KNIGHTS!!!

No doubt the D pressure will be there from your team! Isn't Coleman first team Big East?
I think it's hard to judge a team from just one game. I'm not trying to make any excuses for the HERD, but I just don't think it's fair to judge a team on one game. Niagra was the first game of the season and I'm sure it took some time to get used to playing with eachother.
On the other hand, I haven't seen a lot of D played by any of Coach White's teams. Maybe this year will be different.
Should be a very good game. I hope you enjoy yourself (Other than the score )
If I hear any more news of note, I'll drop you a line.

Was watching the UNC/Stanford game on TV. Dick Vitale was talking about how good Rutgers is, and that he thought they would surprise alot of people.
Marshall finished 8th in the MAC last year. :D

Vitale usually does give us props, he used to be an assistant here. Although he's usually babbling about Duke, I think he wouldn't mind seeing us do well. Hopefully we'll give him something else to talk about besides Duke.
