Yeah, I haven't heard boo on the 4th OOC game. Ideally, it would be great to get another BCS team for excitement but given the need for the team to get to bowl eligibility I'd expect a low level FBS team at home.

Strange thing is, I took a peek at fbsschedules.com and openings are drying up quickly. The ACC releases it's schedule in about 90 days.

I wonder where that "e ..." poster is? He usually has some good opinions on future schedules.

You may have a genuine idea on that PSU game. Might explain the silence up to this point although I believe the nitters would have to move a game.

RE: Slow week due to bye...Predict the 2013 Pitt FB schedule
Let's get BYU on the schedule. They have 11 games for 2013 plus Hawaii is an away game so they could play 13 games next year. In fact, BYU has an opening on 9/14 and if we assume that the Atlantic foes will be Syracuse and FSU, then:

8/31: VILLANOVA
9/7: Virginia Tech
9/14: BYU
9/21: Georgia Tech
9/28: VIRGINIA
10/5: Florida State
10/12: BYE WEEK
10/19: NORTH CAROLINA
10/26: Navy
11/2: Syracuse
11/9: NOTRE DAME
11/16: BYE WEEK
11/23: MIAMI
11/30: Duke
12/7: ACC CHAMP GAME

Edit to add: It looks like NCSU still has only 3 games OOC. IMHO, assuming FSU is the other Atlantic opponent to go along with SU, keep NCSU as the 4th OOC game. Then we don't have to fiddle with BYU. Cal and Colorado played a 10th PAC game as an OOC game in 2011.

I like your solution with BYU at home. I did notice the NC State situation on that website. They have 3 OOC games and all at home. So it would work. I just think it's kind of cheesy imho. We might actually need a cupcake type to even have a hope at bowl eligibility. I think BC could possibly be a one time candidate as well. They could play either home or away and they are in worse shape. Could the ACC have that as one of the Friday night games at BC? We already have 6 games at home.

One thing, you should make the Syracuse game a HOME date. Under the old 9 game, 5/4 split for the Atlantic Division in odd years we would have played up there again. With a return to 8 games that should not be the case and the H/H will not be interrupted. I believe.

i filled out a conference slate for every team based on 2012 acc schedule and the teams from the atlantic that are scheduled to host a coastal opponent next year are boston college, clemson and wake forest so you likely will go to one of those 3.

here is my projected 2013 pittsburgh conference slate:
@virginia tech
virginia
@georgia tech
miami
@duke
north carolina
@coastal tbd(bc,clemson,wake forest)
syracuse

Now that we know that New Mexico is coming to Heinz on 9/14, Here is what our 2013 could look like. HOME GAMES/Away Games are indicated by all caps or not all caps. This is my final prediction and I'm sticking to it!

8/31: VILLANOVA
9/7: Wake Forest
9/14: NEW MEXICO
9/21: Georgia Tech
9/28: VIRGINIA
10/5: Virginia Tech
10/12: BYE WEEK
10/19: NORTH CAROLINA
10/26: Navy
11/2: SYRACUSE
11/9: NOTRE DAME
11/16: BYE WEEK
11/23: MIAMI
11/30: Duke
12/7: ACC CHAMP GAME

This is my final answer:

I don't know why but my gut tells me that we aren't gonna see FSU at home this year...

I would guess flipping Syracuse and FSU. I wouldn't be surprised if we went there 9/7. Virginia Tech is scheduled for the month of September per fbs schedules.com

If I remember correctly, I thought Swofford was on record for saying that FSU or Clemson would be visiting Pitt in 2013. I could have imagined it.

You might well be right as we are speculating. Since I want our new young coach to get bowl eligible again going to 'cuse 2 years in a row ,and getting FSU at home, makes it that much tougher. Maybe it's wishful thinking on my part but the guy didn't do well up in the Dome. We won't beat FSU regardless.

Anyway, I thought the New Mexico game was the right kind of add. Steve! I do think you're right and we will play an ACC game the second week. Somebody anyway. But to open with three home games and only play 4 of our last 9 at home? I just don't know.

That's good stuff! So your home schedule might look like this:

Home:
Villanova
Notre Dame
New Mexico
Virginia
North Carolina
Miami
Syracuse

I could see reasons for brisk ticket sales for ALL of those games. Am I right? How much do you guys think average attendance will increase? Will any game sell out besides Notre Dame? If so, which?

Also, if there is a division swap there's a good chance it would be Ga Tech out and either 'Cuse or BC in, with Pitt getting Louisville as cross-over if 'Cuse moves to the Coastal. That wouldn't affect next year since Ga Tech was a road game, but the following year I have to think UL draws better than GT, right?

I think there will be a slight bump in ticket sales just due to ACC enthusiasm. But if the schedule doesn't improve much then it'll be business as usual.

So it sounds like you think that schedule is not good enough (?). Which games do you see as unappealing? I would've thought Villanova, Notre Dame, Miami and Syracuse would draw for sure, and maybe UNC and UVA as well, given how close they are geographically. I do realize rivalry is more than just proximity, though.

It also depends on how well the team does, but projections:

Villanova 25-30K
ND Full House
New Mexico 40-50
Virginia 45-55
NC 45-55
Miami 55-Full House
Syracuse 50-55

Other than Miami I don't see this conference home slate being much better than the BE slate. Maybe Virginia and UNC brings some fans to Pittsburgh. I have 0 idea how well they travel.

Disagree.

2012:
YSU (Villanova)
Virginia Tech (Notre Dame)
Gardner Webb (Syracuse)
Louisville (Miami)
Temple (Virginia)
Rutgers (North Carolina)

Conclusion: 2013 MUCH better than 2012 when trying to compare them as directly as possible. Honestly, UVA, UNC and Syr would be interchangeable among those 3 games from 2012 - much better overall.

For us Die Hards it is a great schedule. Most yinzers though only get excited for Steelers / Ravens.

do you really think the ACC will make Miami play in cold Pittsburgh on 11/23 ? Why wouldn't they move Miami earlier - say 11/2 - and give Pitt 2 away games to end the season?
