I don't mean to be a debbie downer about it, but when I first started the MBA I was at Katz back when the school was ranked 48. Then there was this huge announcement about how the school slipped out of the top 50 of the USNWR and that they were committed to getting back into the top 50. To this day I don't remember them ever getting back into the top 50. I just looked up Katz and the USNWR for 2013 says Pitt is ranked 85. I have no idea what happened there, but something happened for USNWR to downgrade the business program. I actually ended up finishing my MBA at a B1G school because I moved out of state for my job. If I didn't move I would have an MBA from Katz today. I heard something similar happened at the Law school where the school was downgraded for some reason. I'm not a lawyer, so I don't know why the ranking services downgraded them, but my guess is they didn't care for who was running the school for whatever reason.

Yes, I know USNWR is not the be all and end all but...they do have a good enough ranking system that is decently correct. Something happened at our schools the past few years and I'm bummed out that it did. I only hope all of the schools continue to do well.

miko - I only made that comment in jest (though its true).

I don't completely understand what happened to Pitt Law. When I applied in 2008, the school was in the top 60. At the time that was good enough to be #2 in PA. Since then, the school has taken considerable hits. Word on the street was that it was originally due to a funding issue. I don't know anymore about it.

What I can say, though, is that other issues have pointed to the fact that there was a train wreck waiting to happen in Barco. The dean was under serious scrutiny and of course eventually resigned. The head of career services also left (thank God). I don't know anything about the new dean but the new head of career services there seems to be doing well.

I actually like the current leadership at Katz. I don't like all of their philosophies, but that is a story for another day. I do think that Katz could get it together in the near future, though. There are good people working on the issues there.
