BE talking w/ BYU, Air Force, & East Carolina re 14th
Steve Ehrhart, the head huncho of the Liberty Bowl, was on local radio this morning (56AM/Memphis) and he said the Big East is considering one of the above three teams as the Big East's 14th football school. Ehrhart said that the 'east coast' schools want another east coast team for travel-scheduling reasons. He said the western schools want to add another team in the west. Don't know if that's part of the hold up on the 14th school but it seems to be a new issue I haven't seen posted here yet --- (although I'm sure it probably has 03-wink ).

This board will be unbearable in the next few weeks if they are mentioned. Then again Brando mentioned by name UNLV, Fresno, and New Mexico a few days ago.
More proof no one know anything.

Don't worry we are always the Bridesmaid. People drop our name because our fans will flock to their sites giving them a spike in clicks to increase advertising revenue. 03-nutkick

Not really a shocker....I am surprised that Fresno is a non-factor. Its basically ECU on the west coast.

I can see ECU coming in as all-sports IF they make a MAJOR commitment in basketball. Much like what Memphis is presently doing in football. Other than basketball (and that VERY important in this conference IMO) ECU has a pretty good sports program. The major issue with ECU as I see it is their small TV market. #14 would probably come in in 2015 with Navy.

God I hope we're not developing more discention between east and west, like we had between FB and BB. That would be BAD. I think most would agree on BYU, AFA. I worry that if both decline, we could start arguing between ECU and Freso, or similar.

Hope it does not come to that...

Thats true......those names were obtained directly from his butt. I will say ECU sounds much more realistic than New Mexico or UNLV.

ECU basketball is much more of a minor issue than Memphis football if football indeed drives the bus. I also think small TV markets aren't always a negative aspect when it comes to particular program.

I forgot to add that Ehrhart also said that the Liberty Bowl has reached agreement with the Big East t host Big East teams. I got in on the tail end of that talk so I don't know what that means with respect to any other conferences --- or if it was even mentioned. Guess the entire interview will be posted later at the 56AM site.

You mean like dropping 20 million in facility improvements in 1 year (2012) like we're doing right now

ECU for all sports? Has this topic even been discussed on this board? Ok, I can see where BYU and Air Force are the top two leading candidates out west but the real issue with ECU is basketball and market size. I know we like to play around with Pirate fans but I think ECU football would step and win if given more money and better tv contract.

If ECU was 14 you get a very nice East-West split; however, Cincinnati and Louisville would have to travel a ton but that side would be way too strong most seasons. As a Bearcat fan I might live with added travel because our home schedule would probably include Louisville or Boise State each year. Altought I really think a western team will be 14 but maybe 16 is where this is going.

East:
Temple
Rutgers
Uconn
Navy
ECU
USF
UCF

West:
Cincinnati
Louisville
Houston
SMU
Memphis
Boise State
SDSU

Looks like a logical top three from the perspective of the leader of a bowl in Memphis, TN.

What other schools out there would sell tickets to the Liberty Bowl?

Is this that plan where you make a 50k seat arena so the football fans won't know they are at a basketball game until it's too late? 03-lmfao

We're making a huge commitment to basketball, have a great coach now, and are stepping it up.

I don't think our fan support has been an issue.... I mean, we're middle of the pack in attendance with a losing product.... if we start winning, the place will be packed, and expansion will happen

One of the few lineups I've seen that put Cincy, Louisville and Memphis together; something that would be wise for the Big East to do. Actually, I love this lineup.

But I'm not going to get my hopes up. BYU & Air Force are clearly the front runners, and I'm fairly certain we're in C-USA for life.
