RE: TX State
I think Texas State would be a great addition to CUSA.

No market hurts TXST more than anything else. They don't move the dial in either San Antonio or Austin markets.

I'm torn on this one. It would be great having an easy travel partner but on the other end I want separation. Keeping TXST to the Sunbelt gives us that edge.

Don't get me wrong they have a solid program and nice facilities. They compete well in all sports and will make a fine addition to any confernce. Good upside. I'm just beening a homer and want UTSA to be the next Boise St. I don't want TXST riding our coat tails.

Your AD is not trying to kill a rivalry - she's just thinking about UTSA first, as she should. It's not like y'all have no OOC games lined up and are turning us down for a series.. there's just no reason to buy out a BCS opponent to have Texas State come up the road

We have a market (Austin), just no market share. Fortunately, conferences tend to make decisions on size, not share.

RE: TX State
Trying to claim the Austin market is always going to be a tough sell when its dominated by arguably the biggest brand in cfb. Ill always be a bit torn on the possibility of them joining us. I like that UTSA has created seperation and landed in the percieved better conference. At the same time its free travel and the yearly football game would grow into a huge deal down here. I can appreciate the efforts they've made upgrading their facilities....no doubt they are years ahead of UTSA in that regard. But their leadership and fan support is still questionable. Plus San Marcos for New Orleans is not a fair trade in my book!

It does seem Hickey and Coker might be pushing your cause depending on how you read into some recent comments.....certainly doesn't hurt your chances. If UTSA isnt concerned about your effect on our market/recruiting no reason CUSA should.

You get coverage in the Statesman and on the local news. Plus, you have about 20k alumni in Austin. It could work.

Pretty much. We may be 40 minutes from San Antonio, but it is a completely different roadtrip from going to UTSA.

UTSA roadtrip is an urban experience which consists of getting a hotel on the Riverwalk. Waking up early to take in the Alamo before the 1pm kick off at the Dome and then heading back to the Riverwalk to eat, drink, and celebrate by 5pm Saturday. There are a lot of things to shops, restaurants, and bars downtown and you don't need a car to enjoy yourself. Just fly in, take a cab to your hotel, and spend your weekend on foot. If you get a car, you can take a drive around the city, go to SeaWorld or Six Flags. They really do have a lot of entertainment options in that city.

A TXST roadtrip consists of slowing down to explore the Hill Country. We are 25 minutes from the airport so driving (or renting a car) is a good idea. San Marcos is college town with the state's largest outlet mall (wives love it), natural activities (hiking / crystal clear river). Our 7pm kick offs allow you to explore SM or visit nearby Austin (big city / state capitol atmosphere), Lockhart (BBQ Mecca of Texas), Gruene (Oldest Dancehall in Texas for two-stepping and german cooking), or Wimberley (eclectic art community in the hills) before or after the game.

Its a college town experience, but you will have significant interest from two nearby major cities (each of which has alot of Tx St alums). Texas State has 34K students--larger than Texas Tech. Its slowly building a significant alumni base.

Would love to see Texas State in CUSA. I live in New Braunfels so between them and UTSA I'd have a local Mean Green game every year.

As much as I would like to see TxSt added, it sure sounds like they are going to miss the boat. I would think this puts them at a distinct disadvantage recruiting in TX this year if the SBC doesn't react quickly.
