People respected the Big East of the 90's and early 00's.

C-USA of that period probably had a better respect level nationally than the Big East does now, even though it's a pretty similar league.

BUT the new C-USA with teams coming from the Sun Belt and FCS will not get the money that C-USA is getting now.

With the 5 major conferences going to "super" conferences one of the former leagues was going to have to cease to exist. That is all that is happening here.

Nobody thinks they are better than anyone else. ECU is not "moving up". At best we are staying put.

Also ECU accepted a football only invite, publically yesterday. AND YESTERDAY ONLY!! Today it has most likely already changed and everyone in the room saying "football only" yesterday most likely already knew that by 2014 ECU would be a all sports member.

This is not over yet. I expect some current C-USA members to still move.

It may not be the money the BE got in the last contract..but..I still will be a chitload more than we got in CUSA.

I think we get a little over a million from C-USA now. I expect in the new Big East, which has yet to even be decided, we see $2-3 million. No doubt more but not what any current projections show.

I think the remnants of C-USA will now get ~800,000 per school per year.

But the difference is they are the Big East from the nineties, when is was a respectable championship contender.

Yea, just to go to one that's spread as far west as San Diego.

And the Big East is now C-USA from the 90's/early 00's when it was a strong basketball league and a pesky football conference that can get a couple of teams ranked a season. Calling the Big East C-USA isn't that much of an insult to me, because C-USA used to be a very solid league.

C-USA prior 2005:

Louisville
Cincinnati
South Florida
Tulane
Memphis
Southern Miss
East Carolina
TCU
Houston
UAB
Army

Big East 2014 (as of now):

Cincinnati
South Florida
Central Florida
East Carolina
Houston
Memphis
Tulane
SMU
Boise State
Cal State-San Diego
Temple
Navy

You're trading TCU for SMU and Army for Navy, the former is not an improvement and the latter is an upgrade. UAB for Temple which is a wash in basketball and it's basically the old C-USA minus Louisville. BSU and SDSU have no business in C-USA but Boise is the strongest football brand C-USA ahem Big East has (Cincinnati is there as well but who knows how long they'll stay). C-USA 1.0 was a good solid conference so I would say moving to C-USA 1.0 is an upgrade over C-USA 3.0 at this point.

That is what has baffled me : How can the same teams suddenly be worth 10X more by changing conferences ?

It made me question the negotiating ability of our commish.

That's what ticks me off. Teams that rubbed shoulders with us all of a sudden think they're so much better than us. Same thing happened with USF, Ville, and Cinci.

I in no way shape or form think we are better than the teams we are leaving. We were just one of the 'lucky' ones. Tulane sold the city, the recruiting (to other teams in a 'big conference' as well as Tulane), the fact it is an AAU member and that they have invested or will be investing over 150 million into athletics. The main thing I want to see is how Tulane will handle getting the extra money. Tulane is talking the talk, now its time to walk the walk.

Only two schools left that were there from the beginning. What gives. Guess we are destined to go down with the ship. :python:

Southern Miss and Charlotte i think will be the next 2 to move to Big East in this big debacle we call Conference Realignment. UAB should get in but I think they will overlook UAB.

I dont expect it to be true now, but its worth mentioning that the original CUSA had a TV contract that was similar to the power conferences.

ESPN also didn't have a lock on SEC or the ACC like it does now (Jefferson Pilot/Raycom was still a syndication player). ESPN/ESPN2 and Fox Sports Net got C-USA sports some fairly healthy basic cable viewing back in the day.

I maintain that C-USA's return to Fox Sports has been one of the smarter conference moves made, even its mostly through national/regional telecasts on the FSNs. Outside of network TV, having games on basic cable is still where its at (apologies to CBS Sports Network, who's steadily improved from its CSTV days).

I hope C-USA can still be a part of the potential Fox Sports 1 channel.

ABC (or Mickey Mouse) didn't own ESPN yet.

What people are failing to understand about the Big East TV rights is that there is a lot of programming that needs to be filled with all the new networks starting up. With the other conferences already locked we are just about the only game in town right now.

Also the Big East Basketball schools are probably some of the most valuable from a TV perspective with the HUGE markets they are located. Add to that the nationwide expanse of the football conference is some of the largest markets in the country and you should start to see why there is still value in the Big East in its current form.

Sure we will not get huge money but I still suspect it will be substantially more than CUSA, Sun-Belt, and the MAC combined. If that possibility was not out there Boise St and SDSU would have already backed out of the deal....The only reason why they are still around at this point is they know they will not be able to come close to Big East money if they go back to the MWC....So if what we currently have can stay together long enough to get the TV contract done I think you will see things hang together for a little while.

I suspect the TV powers will step in and try to keep the ACC together and may give them a bump in TV revenue just like they did to save the Big 12.

I've said this before. This younger generation has no idea what a sense of humor is. There was absolutely nothing funny in that ESPN clip.

Really UNC-C fans and ODU fans saying this is a bad idea? I've heard it all..just listen to the Southern Miss fans who have seen teams they've battled every Saturday for years pass them by and are now making way more money than them. This is no slight against USM...great program that deserves to be right there with the best in CFB! I would go to the new BE even if the TV contract gave us only onr dollar more..just for the fact that we don't have to play UNC-C and some other FCS teams.

Did not see anything funny in that clip either...but thought is interesting CUSA teams rebranding themselves as the BE and going from $700,000 per school to $8 million is pretty d*mn smart. COGS

8 million...LOL. You guys aren't getting 8 Million. Not with WVU, Pitt, Syracuse, Rutgers, Louisville, Notre Dame all gone. No way.

Would you like to take a little bet on that?....

All-sports, she takes it; and they wouldn't offer us a football-only anyway. We live in a strange times.

It was a rhetorical question. You called the nBE a "turd of a conference" but in reality your school and any CUSA would make the same decision as ECU did.
