I know MT fans certainly are pulling for western schools at this point.

To keep both USM & UAB in the East they would have to add two western schools (that means no WKU). To keep UAB in the East they would have to add a western and eastern school. Basically is they add any more eastern schools then USM is on the western side.

Right, that's why I'm pulling for two western schools, but it doesn't look like that's even a remote possibility.

RE: CUSA Divisions
I don't think they are going to 16. I think 2 of UTEP/Tulsa/Marshall would have to go to get in WKU/NM St.

If both Western schools go, you put Southern Miss/NM St in the West and WKU in the East. If all 3 go, you may see Arkansas State added as the other Western team or something. I just wish all this could end so I could see the makeup of the new conference.

I don't think it is as bad as some of you make it out to be. There is a lot of potential for growth once this settles down. Just need the realignment to be over from the top on down and then work to be the 6th or 7th best conference. It isn't like this conference was ever going to jump the SEC, Big 10, Big 12, Pac 12 or ACC.

Ragu, if you don't think we're considering 16.. you haven't listened to the BB's comments in the past. He's all but said "16 is coming, it's just a matter of when it'll be most economically feasible". It was a big part of the Alliance idea, both sides (MWC/CUSA) both going to 16 and then break it down to 'groups of 8'

Quote:then work to be the 6th or 7th best conference

6th or 7th? Dude we've made fun of Memphis, SMU and Tulane (and admittedly UAB who is still here :) ) being so bad in recent years, that the running joke was "dump the bottom of the conference" and we jump right back up to competing for the best non-AQ conference.

Basically as long as the new-arrivals can pull their weight (and MTSU and LaTech have proven they can... it's up to the rest of the "newbies"), 6th or 7th should be easy to reach.. it's just that a lot of fans need to get off their high-horse and quit looking down their nose at the new arrivals (and you new arrivals gotta make sure fans show up to the games!)

6th or 7th is probably the best they can do.

SEC
Big 10
Big 12
Pac 12
ACC

There is no way CUSA ever tops any of those 5. Now if the ACC implodes to the big 4 and then the rest of ACC/Big East merge, 6th is a very easy goal. 6th or 7th is about right depending on what happens though. Can't see them ever getting better than those top 5.

RE: CUSA Divisions
disagree.. ACC has had some bad years (Anyone remember the year they had a 6-6 vs 6-6 championship game?), so they can be snagged on occasion... (not a regular thing obviously, but it can be done. Again look at this year.. the MAC is IMO, performing at a level equal to/better than the ACC right now.

The other four , will not happen any time soon due to media favoritism (but again, the Pac has had a bad year on occasion, but even less often than the ACC).

RE: CUSA Divisions
CUSA has some catching up to do, but none of these conferences are very good:

MWC
25. Utah St
29. Fresno St
31. San Jose St
79. Nevada
106. Air Force
115. Wyoming
125. Colorado St
128. New Mexico
143. UNLV
162. Hawaii

Avg: 94

Big East
32. Boise St
46. Cincinnati
49. UCF
51. SD State
68. SMU
85. Navy
87. USF
95. ECU
97. Uconn
105. Temple
116. Houston
133. Memphis
169. Tulane

Avg: 94

CUSA
53. La Tech
57. Tulsa
82. MTSU
90. Rice
109. Marshall
114. Old Dominion
117. UNT
120. FAU
121. FIU
126. UTSA
134. UTEP
142. UAB
167. Southern Miss
NR. Charlotte

Avg: 110

If Boise and SD State stayed in the MWC, it would be the strongest league.

RE: CUSA Divisions
As an ODU fan I sure wish that some our fan would stop openly emoting about the state of C*USA football reg. the loss of ECU and additions of MTSU and FAU. You have to be sh¡tting me. We are in our fourth year of playing football at any level. Granted ODU has done extremely well so far, but to come in here and take a dump on other programs who have accomplished more at the FBS level simply by having taken one snap is beyond arrogant.

I am very happy to be a part of C*USA, and that holds true regardless of which teams it is constituted. I am happy for both Tulane and (espically) ECU for their moves to the BE. I believe that for ODU, and Charlotte in particular it is incumbent upon our fans to realize that we are the newbies here and to act accordingly. Even teams like FAU, or NMSU that some may consider lowly deserve a certain level of deference from us considering our status.

BTW, I will forever be thankful to ECU AD Terry Holland for having played such a major role in helping ODU realize our goal of moving to the FBS level.

Nice Post. I actually believe ODU may be on the Big East's list of potential adds. Particularly if the west falls apart and they actually move east. Good luck. Hope the Herd and Monarchs have a long future.
