When Talking B1G Realignment (Opinion)
Remember that there is 3 huge factors in expansion research; First you must be a AAU school (ND was and most likely will always be the only exception but alas that will not happen ever), second you must be in a good/okay market with national presence (Nebraska and Penn State) or great/best market regardless of national presence (Rutgers and Maryland), third is state contingency which is not a 100% guarantee but good luck if you think the school presidents will sign off on any non contingent school other than Texas or UNC. Other things that play factor is attendance and stadium size among other things.

This is all in opinion and bias of mine but I'm gonna do an eval of possible expansion prospects (all AAU) in Alphabetical order;

Buffalo; In great market but with a poorly designed small stadium with low fan support, would be a long shot to be sent an invite.

G Tech; Huge market with good sized stadium and decent fan support however isn't in a contingent state and would provide some fun travel for Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Iowa State; We already have that market covered with Iowa but it would fit with our geography and be easy travel for most our teams.

Kansas; Would expand the market, within the footprint and would be a great addition in basketball but more cannon fodder for the football powerhouses. B12 GoR would present a problem.

Mizzou; Would expand the market, within footprint, would be a good addition in both football and basketball with having great fan support, only FBS team in state too. After being snubbed for Nebraska it would probably take Kansas joining to convince them to make the jump.

UNC; Where Delaney and ESPN bosses have graduated from, controls a good percentage of a strong market but not in contingent state however I think it would be one of the few exceptions to that rule.

Pitt; I would LOVE Pitt in the B1G but I doubt Penn State would make an exception for them. Great market with national presence at times, good football and good basketball, fits in geographically.

Stony Brook; HUGE market, too small of stadium and currently in FCS.

Texas; Obvious reasons and obvious.

Virginia; Provides a good market, fits the eastern footprint, builds onto basketball.

I've already said I want Kansas and Mizzou several times and I'll stay at that.

Any comments?

UConn will be AAU soon enough too. They're getting very close to an invite it seems. The only thing is they have a true ceiling for football potential. But I'd love to keep that rivalry going at the same time.

Until they become AAU they are off my list, I mentioned I'm only looking at AAU schools so I forgot nobody.

Out of footprint completely, sorry. I'd think we'd add Cincy before Tulane, and if anyone brings up Colorado, B1G would not mess with the PAC because the leagues are like FWBs.

Yea but UConn is not contiguous... The B1G would have to add a NY school... So I guess, for the sake of UConn, Buffalo should be added.

Kansas; Would expand the market, within the footprint and would be a great addition in basketball but more cannon fodder for the football powerhouses. B12 GoR would present a problem. Kansas is also joined at the hip with KState. I doubt they come without KState and I doubt they get an invite unless it involves Mizzu as well.

Mizzou; Would expand the market, within footprint, would be a good addition in both football and basketball with having great fan support, only FBS team in state too. After being snubbed for Nebraska it would probably take Kansas joining to convince them to make the jump. Chicken and egg situation. Mizzu doesn't come without Kan and Kan doesn't come without Mizzu. In the end it will be neither.

UNC; Where Delaney and ESPN bosses have graduated from, controls a good percentage of a strong market but not in contingent state however I think it would be one of the few exceptions to that rule. UNC would be contingent id UVa was also invited.

Pitt; I would LOVE Pitt in the B1G but I doubt Penn State would make an exception for them. Great market with national presence at times, good football and good basketball, fits in geographically. Another town owned by the NFL. Besides, there are as manny PSU fans as Pitt fans in Pburg.

Stony Brook; HUGE market, too small of stadium and currently in FCS. FCS says it all.

Texas; Obvious reasons and obvious.

Virginia; Provides a good market, fits the eastern footprint, builds onto basketball. Also makes UNC contingent to the BIG.

I've already said I want Kansas and Mizzou several times and I'll stay at that.

Any comments?

Made my remarks in bold next to your points. Being an east cost boy, I'd like to see UVa and UNC be the ones. Besides, every RU fan wants to see the ACC get gutted the way the ACC gutted the BE.

Cincinnati has no hope of entering the Big 10 because of Ohio State and therefore should have no consideration.

Seems like the no brainers would be Kansas, Virginia, North Carolina and Duke.

I cannot see Kansas at all. Missouri, maybe. This is all about demographics and football. Kansas does not have the population nor the high school football. This expansion has nothing to do with basketball. Also, who wants to go to a game in Kansas?

RE: When Talking B1G Realignment (Opinion)
Does AAU status really matter as much as you guys say? Big Ten schools knew there was a very good chance Nebraska would be booted when they were adding them and several Big Ten schools even voted to kick them out of the AAU.

I mean, Kansas and Oregon are AAU and FAR FROM a mid-tier research university and neither is considered an academic elite to my knowledge. A school like NC State, for example, does roughly twice as much research as Oregon and Kansas COMBINED. Even Nebraska does substantially more research than a school like Kansas.

If I were the Big Ten I would be much more concerned about the actual quality and less-so about the official designation of AAU. There are some very good research universities out there that aren't in the AAU that do substantially more research than some AAU schools. It's just my opinion but I think this AAU-fixation is a little foolish.

When the last 3 teams were added both the presidents and Delaney constantly talked about the AAU and CIC as major parts of the consideration and decisions, so whether that be true or not, according to them it does matter as much as we say it does.
