I gave him a litany of reasons why UNM would be horrible for the conference, most of it made up ****.

The problem with New Mexico is that Wyoming, Colorado State, and Air Force are all tied at the hip, and New Mexico has been their puppy since 1951. The Lobos, Cowboys, and Rams have always been in the same conferences since 1951, except for 1962-67 when CSU was independent, and Air Force has always played Colorado State and Wyoming. All four have been together in the WAC and then MWC since 1980. Splitting them up is a huge hassle.

You just keep saying this, but it's not the case. THey've played together because where the hell else are they going to go? WYO, AFA and CSU are different in that they all share the same metro area and are 2 hours or less from each other. UNM is attached to those schools by not having options, not by rivalry. WYO/CSU is the Rivalry

UNLV would be a very nice pick up. Market, travel, new FB stadium coming, and good hoops. They need to be a high priority.

UNLV hands down over UNM. I keep hearing rumblings of Nevada... why? I guess Boise State may want them in? Crazy stupid IMO... I guess they are some type of rival for Boise?
UNLV is a no brainer for hoops. Memphis & Las Vegas could alternate tournament locations.
Fresno is a no brainer for football and baseball. Recruiting grounds in California are an added bonus.
Nevada IMO is probably the best all around addition, solid football and basketball as well as a flagship school. They've got built in natural rivalries as well.
Obviously BYU & Air Force have more cache than Nevada but IMO BYU is out and AFA is 50/50 at best.

UNR hasn't beat a team that went to a bowl game since 2010, their basketball was good early part of the 00s, but has fallen off the cliff. They have a limited size town and fan base. THey are the flagship, but eventually UNLV will be the better school in the state. I don't think UNR should be touched with a 10 foot pole.

I don't like the tone this thread is taking. This was supposed to be an outlet to bash the state of New Mexico. A thread where peaceful and well-meaning men and women of honor could, with righteous indignation, make anecdotal pee-pee on dilapidated towns, stinky roadside diners, and drunk Apache Indians. The thread is damn near ruined.
Stay on task gentlemen.

As soon as they dig that first shoveful for the football stadium that's when you invite them. Not before.

I used to hate hippies until all the hipsters from California took over Austin. God I miss the hippies.

All those hipseters from California moved to California to practice their hipstering and now are branching out.

It is amazing how so many people are in such a rush to split up rivalries when the same teams will eventually just end up right back in the same leagues.
Look at all the Big East schools that went to the ACC. Then more Big East members ended up following. Same thing for those from CUSA to the Big East.
Keep rivals together, and move as many of them as possible in one shift, and get it over with. Drawing this stuff out is not good for college sports at all.

Are you a New Mexico fan? If so explain to me why UNM **** blocks NMSU from the MWC? Or why they don't try to get UTEP? Because those are the 2 biggest rivlas to UNM and if it's so important to be in the same conf why are they not?

Once they got assurances that everyone else would vote against NMSU, UNM came out for them
