ACC biggest in Big 5
Looked at the big 5 conferences by electoral votes- subtracting 2 per state(as every state gets that). It really is interesting to see...
ACC 150-18=132 for football, 161-20=141 all sports
SEC 150-22=128
B10 140-22=118
P12 100-12=88
B12 62-10=52

It really is amazing given how small the Pac 12 is how huge their tv deal was. And, same can be said by the Big 12 as well quite frankly....

RE: ACC biggest in Big 5
IMHO, the correlation would not be very strong at all. Where would the old BE have fallen on this list? Without looking it up I'd assume quite high, yet the BE couldn't do squat with all of those electoral votes. Bottom line is that you cannot claim a whole state if your school is not getting coverage throughout the state. Pitt does pretty good when it comes to ratings on TV and, but if you put Pitt head to head against PSU in trying secure all of those voters within the state, Pitt would lose. It all depends on your market penetration.

Louisville, BC, Pitt, Syracuse, and GT don't remotely come close to carrying their entire states. Also factor in UF & South Carolina cutting their share of FLA & SC and it shows up more.

The PAC carries their states very well (although CU and Utah less than the original 10 IMO)

B12 and SEC marshall a much higher % of their state populations to support the league.

The thing is though, ACC even if they have half their states- is still at 66.... That's 14 more than Big 12(and B12 doesn't own Texas by itself any longer thanks to the SEC).

If you do a more representative sample by splitting up districts the ACC comes in arount the 40 something to 60 something range depending on how generous you are being while working with 4 more schools.

Per school comes into the 3-4.5 EV per school. Big 12 comes in at around 5 per school.

How I calculated:

Texas has 79% of their EV without A&M. Roughly 30.
ISU gets 2 of IA's 6 EV. Up to 32.
WV, KS, and OK deliver all theirs. Add 18 to get to 50.

For the ACC:

Syracuse gets the 4 EV represented by the Congressional districts that either serve the city or border it.

Pitt gets the 3 that do the same in PA.

Louisville's fan base is pretty much centralized in the Louisville metro area which makes up 29.9% of the state population. So I gave them 33% of the EV with 3.

SC & FLA I gave half.

GT I gave 2 because the SEC owns Georgia and even Atlanta.

BC delivers 3 of MA's 11 EV as looking at the district map it seemed the most fair. 4 districts touch them but two barely do and have larger areas of the district far from the city. So half each makes 3.

All of VA & NC.

62 total but divide by 14 and... 4.42.
