As football only members? I really have a hard time believing that. Next to UNLV, FS is the only other school I've heard state they think it's a bad idea to split the AD. You'd have Boise State, Cal State Fullerton, Fresno State, Hawaii, San Diego State, UC Irvine and UNLV, along with other Big West teams. Is this enough to convince Fresno and UNLV Presidents to split their AD's?

Full membership is tough as well. Tulane and Memphis have no business being in the western division. Pushing them east opens holes for four teams to join Boise State, Houston, San Diego State and SMU. Does going to 16 add value to the t.v. deal...doubtful, in fact it is probably a drain, making a 16 team league unlikely.

Everything but basketball is better in the big west, have SDSU and UNLV and it's a 2 bid league, take out sdsu and unlv from the MWC, it's, ta-da, a 2 bid league

Actually, I think it's hysterical and almost as good as straight up adding an "eastern" school . . . can't wait to hear the Fresno boys howl . . . if Boise State/SDSU actually are endorsing UNLV for football, what a huge slap in the face to Fresno State . . . all I can say is WOW! . . .your buddies in Boise don't think much of the long-term value of your team . . .

Although, if it is UNLV, that really tells me that Aresco is forcing Boise State's hand and actually expects Boise State/SDSU to leave to the MWC . . . UNLV then comes in as an all-sports program . . . we add UMass and likely New Mexico/Colorado State for the football/basketball package . . . along with a couple of basketball schools like VCU, St. Louis, Wichita State, Belmont, etc. . . .

I'm not happy with this lineup on a million levels, but it would be worth it just to listen to the folks on this board try to understand what makes perfect sense in Providence . . .

Adding UNLV and Fresno is a first step to an all-sports invite for Boise State and SDSU. If both schools accept an invitation, it will be the first positive BE news I've heard in a long time. Again, this needs to happen asap.

The butt hurt won't come until they accept or decline. No one is surprised they've been contacted.

There is a reason Boise and SDSU are *still* with us....

I wonder if this means Navy is bye bye... or if we're pressing on past 14. Contacted both does not mean both will be added..

I'd be suprised if we dont add 3. In fact, I think it is much easier to get 3 to say yes than just one. If the teams being invited know you intend to take 3, saying no leaves them in a position of possibly being left behind in a severely gutted Mountain West.

I think Aresco is shoring up for a couple more defections, he has to have a core of 12+ to get the accurrate numbers for a TV contract. I wouldn't be surprised if we go above 14

Agreed! I don't care what the other Yahoo's think these are two great adds. It also puts pressure on the MWC...

If its football only and/or Fresno only then no way Fresno comes. You are welcome to take UNLV for football only and the MWC will add via subtraction.

If it is an all sports add with UNLV and likely New Mexico then I would guess Fresno will be on board.

Yes, but without Fresno, San Diego St, Boise, and Vegas---the Mountain West will have about 187 people in their remaining footprint. Good luck during contract negotiations.

I'm going to say this one time more! The FB-ONLY is just temporary! Don't ask me how I know, I just know! Things can change but this conference will be an All-Sports Conference once the C-7 LEAVE!

Sounds like a lot of butt hurt to me!

No it sounds like a reaction to a group of eastern teams trying to maximize their value on the back of western teams. If you make an offer that doesn't make sense you get laughed at.

Come back with an offer for a real western division and you might find a different reaction.

better than minimizing your value by staying in quiet boring mountain towns

Only way i can see this working is if we go 2 8 team divisions where non revenue sports play no east vs west outside of tournament/championship games.

Would prefer rescind the offer to Tulane and replace with UMass or someone like that out east.

This news could be old news...I wouldn't be surprised that Fresno and UNLV were in discussions. And they both said no for now and so Aresco invited Tulane and ECU in it's place.

Doubt that since ECU and Tulane came aboard when Rutgers and Louisville bailed.

Yes, everyone needs to disconnect the western and eastern additions. ECU and Tulane were replacements. Out west is legitimate expansion.

This, if we brought them in as all sports now we'd be sporting 23 basketball teams in 2014 (maybe 25 if Louisville and ND don't get out, though I think they will).
