Brendon Kay-Belk Bowl MVP
All of the talk prior to the game was about Renfree from Duke and his cerebral play as a QB. ESPN forgot about Brendon Kay. Kay outplayed the Duke QB and won the bowl MVP. How Butch Jones decided on Munchie over Kay is beyond me. Despite the injuires, Kay continues. Kay made one of the most exciting plays in Bearcat history happen at the Belk Bowl, throwing a 83 yard TD pass to Kelce. Wow. Here's his profile for those not familar with him. If I'm not mistaken, he's a business major and I think he is close to completing his MBA. When recruited, he also was an outstanding baseball pitcher. Many thought he would do both, but apparently Kelly did not want him playing baseball. We all know now he's got a great arm.

The NCAA granted him a 6th year, since he lost 2 years to injuries.

Munchie wasn't good....and had Lyle pulled him and started Kay beginning with the Toledo game we would be the BCS representative instead of UofL...most likely anyway. No way to really know....but many UC fans, me included believe we would have.

Kay was a BK recruit. Munchie was a Lyle recruit...Lyle, in pigheaded fashion wanted his guy in the game. The fans out cry got so great he finally gave in and started Kay...too little too late (for a bcs bowl anyway).

I was at the Temple game Kay's first start this year. I was impressed with his accuracy on deep balls and even his running ability. The bowl game only reinforced my impression of him. Tuberville is fortunate to have him back next year.

Cincinnati fans need to remember that Kay was not 100% until probably midway through the season as well. It could very well be that Munchie was the better player at the start of the season but simply regressed, while Kay worked himself into game shape over the next two months. Makes sense to me.

valid points lolly popp.....

I think with Kay we would have beaten Toledo and have at least had a good shot at UofL.....but woulda-coulda-shoulda

I'm glad he comes back next year. We had 65 first and second year players this year so LOT coming back next year. Go Cats!

RE: Brendon Kay-Belk Bowl MVP
Honestly, to think that Lyle started Munchie over Brendon is obsurd. Munchie gave the UL game away by hoisting a pass into the end zone under duress and after spouting off that he was better than Bridgewater. The guy is a clown and Lyle started him over Brendon? We would have beaten Toledo and not sure what would have happened at UL. We had the momentum and maybe could have won if he did not hoist that ball in the end zone. Lyle made a huge mistake in choosing Munchie over Brendon. IF he does that at UT, his contract will be done in three years. Someone said it best at the Belk Bowl game, UT will be hiring a new coach and getting rid of Lyle before UC hires a new coach. That will most likely ring true. I got news for Lyle too, he's said Les Miles and Nick Sabin were unknown when they came to the SEC. Lyle, your no Nick or Les. That is all but true.

RE: Brendon Kay-Belk Bowl MVP
agreed on comments about Lyle.

I was never a huge fan of Butch.....of course he was coming in as replacement for my all time fav UC football coach BK so Jones had huge shoes to fill. He did a solid not spectacular job and he was a better recruiter than BK for sure. All said and done though, he wanted out and he played his hand in his complete clusterf()(#$ handling of his exit stage left. He is at Tennesseee now, i could care less what he does there good or bad. I'm thrilled to have Tuberville and believe he will do good things for UC.
