it's not exactly absurd for Catholic institutions to assist in cover ups.

An issue I think is being overlooked is how Notre Dame committed a major NCAA violation.

The University admitted hiring and paying for a private investigator on the behalf of one it's student athletes for a personal matter, which goes so far above and beyond what is allowed under NCAA rules there isn't even a way to make this a minor violation.

I actually had a debate with Stewart Mandel about this on Twitter and he said that it became an issue about his safety to which I argue you call the police at that point if someone's safety becomes compromised...not foot the bill for a P.I. But I'm sure since its Notre Dame they'll get a free pass.

Wow. I didn't even know about that. Amazing the media has never told us that story eh? BTW, that tracks dead on with how I viewed how ND handled this not even knowing about Seeberg. I tweeted this a couple of days ago. Glory and profit actually make more sense than covering their own arse...

I will tell you how hard it is to get a story on a national paper. I did investigative reporting for a radio network and the first anniversary of Katrina, I had a person who was a Mississippi State (not the school) Employee send me a message they recieved from then Gov. Haley Barbour telling them to only mention positive things about our recovery and anyone who mentioned the many problems that they were not addressing would be fired. I call a national paper, told them who I was and offered the story to them, but they told me to first get it printed in the Clarion Ledger or Times Picayune and when it was printed let them know and they would LOOK at it. I told them to forget it because I could present it to a national audience but thought it would be helpful if they would cover it. It was a vice president of the paper I talked to and she admitted it was a great story but they had a policy of doing it that way, so her hands were tied. So it shows you how such a story as this one can go unchallenged so long and what should have been reported long ago took so long.
