Rumor: UVA to Big 10 next week?
I've been hearing through the grapevine, mostly an SMU insider with friends at UVA, that the Big 10 may pull the trigger on this move as early as next week. Furthermore, there's been chatter around other forums about a similar move. Here's a WVU article whose sources seem to indicate the same from our SMU insider guy:

http://www.eersauthority.com/big-10-and-...c-schools/

We all know of this realignment apocalypse scenario. We all know it's coming, the question is when. There's a lot of smoke indicating that it may start this coming week. I'm just thinking, let's get this **** over with.

I don't usually put any sort of credence with eersauthority too, it's just that much of what was said in that article coincided exactly with what our SMU insider was saying earlier this week. I'm just spreading the message, this could be it, or it could be another rumor that leads to nothing.

Last week this clown was begging ACC media to help get West Virginia out of The Big 12 and into The ACC. This week he is posting this garbage. Nothing to see here.

As a fan of an ACC school this would be great.

In one fail swoop it weakens the B1G and strengthens the ACC.

Replace them with Cincy and it is an instant upgrade in both football and hoops, while UVA drags the B1G down that much more.

I do think there is something in the works but I doubt the timetable is accelerated that much. I will be surprised if any more moves are made until a verdict is reached in the Maryland v. ACC lawsuit.

It would be great, but unfortunately I think if UVA is leaving they will be joined by another ACC member...

If we could get rid of some of the NC deadweight we would be even stronger.

Two actual offers to #ACC school have been made by each the #B1G & #Big12, for a total of four....more forthcoming.

Greg Swaim just propagates unsubstantiated rumors to gain Twitter followers, I take his word with a grain of salt. He has zero credibility as an inside source.

If there actually is smoke then the 4 invites are UVA/GTech to the B1G and FSU/Clemson to the Big 12 but it doesn't take an inside source to guess that one.

RE: Rumor: UVA to Big 10 next week?
I don't believe this rumor at all. I think most of the garbage thrown around on this board originates with one or a few isolated areas and the sports world lemmings pass the the info around far and wide to the point that it APPEARS like "multiple" sources are corroborating the rumor. However, the reality is that the simpletons are too gullible to believe every little thing posted on the internet so the rumor generators continue to manufacture more and more rumors for the fools to believe and pass along to more fools.

Everyone likes the nice and tidy 4 by 16 conference matrix because the latest conventional "wisdom" is that these four conferences will break away from the NCAA and start their own league where the players are paid. Well, we all know that this league would lose their non-profit status in a heartbeat. I don't care how many people will try to spin it otherwise, the second these players are paid anything for playing a college sport, they lose their amateur status and become professionals. Professionals get taxed, period. So in reality, the alleged breakaway WILL NOT HAPPEN.

OK...serious Miko is gone. Back to "trolling"...

There is a loophole in all of this, paying scholarship players stipends to cover costs outside of tuition, books, and fees is a valid argument. Students receive additional scholarship benefits from schools all of the time for academic reasons such as laptops, additional housing stipends, scholarship refund checks, etc. If schools are allocating additional funds to students for potential contributions to research and academic pedigrees, why is that any different for schools paying students for potential contributions to the athletic department? Additionally, breaking free from the NCAA opens up the floodgates in regards to under the table payments from boosters. Boosters paying players, HS/AAU coaches, families of players, etc. is already out of control in both football and basketball, imagine how bad it will be without a centralized governing body. Since all of these booster transactions are under the table it won't be viewed as taxable. Additionally, these schools have more than enough political clout to keep its tax-exempt status after breaking free from the NCAA. I don't view a split from the NCAA as a possibility, it is an inevitability, the only question is how long will it take. That is anyone's guess at this point...

If the ACC had $5 for every one of these "rumors" they could buy controlling interest in the B1G and SEC.

Well said Miko.

The B1G made its move to 14 now 2 months ago. If they wanted to go to 16 they would have already done so by now.

Maryland and Rutgers are project schools from the B1G perspective both on the edge of B1G territory. I can't understand what Virginia would bring that the B1G is already getting from Maryland market wise.....Richmond, Newport News? The B1G has Northern Virginia covered with UMD.

Georgia Tech is suspect because the B1G has never added a school that is not from an adjacent state. They've just never done it. This isn't the B12 where all they care about is football power.

This is a source from U of Texas [/u]not WV rumor. I think everyone is hung up on the link posted and not where there real rumor has come from. The real source is pretty trusted.
