Pulling the rooster's tail has been a long time West Virginia tradition. Although Arch Moore somehow managed to win whenever he ran for Governor in spite of it. It's starting to change in WV. But change happens slowly...

We were a democrat state for a bunch of years and slowly changed over to republican. Despite some of our inner cities and Mexico border counties, this is a very Red state.

I'm a republican conservative and I can't stand perry. I voted for Debra Medina in the Texas republican primary but stayed away from the general election. Why Texans continue to vote for this is guy blows my mind.

Its hard to figure out. I've yet to meet anyone who's enthused about him. He really ticked off the Republican rural areas with his trans-Texas corridor. Yet he crushed Kay Bailey Hutchinson in the Republican primary when he looked vulnerable. He only got 38% in the previous general election when there was an independent Republican running (the Democrat finished a distant 3rd).

"eventually" covers a lot of time.

Meanwhile, it's going to be difficult to get voters in Texas to ignore the hostility that most liberals have to the Lone Star State. A lot of people have moved there specifically to get away from other blue-dominated states.

The two biggest blue states we get transplants from are Michigan and Cali

The Michiganders seem more willing to embrace Texas and make a fresh start with how we do things.

The Cali's though never stop complaining about how awful Texas is and how we need to change and be like California so they can feel better here. I'm sorry Cali hates business and the middle class but if you're going to come here and take advantage of our state's economy stop complaining about how we "just don't spend enough" or that you can't find palenta here because we do grits instead.

Enron sure did a job on California. I, myself, moved from a reported red state, Florida. You notice how that changed this year. Texas will be next.

Anything is possible but right now Dems get absolutely stomped in every one if our races for a major state or national office. Major gerrymandering of Houston, Dallas and the valley is the only way they win any representatives at all.

Not sure how many election cycles it will take, but the changing demographics and attitudes are going to require the Republican party to ask itself some very hard questions.
