Well outside of a collapse or the Summit kicking them out, how else do explain it?

The Summit seems like it's going to be a perfect storm of moves.. Oakland is a huge favorite to go to the Horizon. A10 will pluck some Horizon schools which will force the Horizon to take more. Where from? The Summit. MVC will lose a team. Where will they replace? The Summit. Huge red flags for the Horizon.

I also wonder if UMKC heard that the MVC might lose Creighton, plus the Horizon might go to 12, raiding the Summit. Still there are schools in D-II more willing to move up in the midwest than there are in the west.

I agree with this. I really can't figure this move out unless they think the Summit is getting shredded soon. And if that does happen, wouldn't that also increase their chances at an auto bid as well as save on travel?

If it was Oakland or South Dakota State leaving then the panic button could be pressed. As long as those two stay then Denver will stay.

Well think about it. Horizon- Detroit probably blocked Oakland last year. Well, now Detroit will likely go A10. Block is over. Oakland gone. SDSU has to be a favorite to replace Creighton in the MVC. So both are very not just possible to leave, but likely to leave.

SDSU could probably talk the MVC into NDSU and USD too saying they are a package. MVFC becomes MVC fb. What about Missouri St. to the SBC? UND could fill that spot or I'd like to see Murray St. added if Missouri St. left.

Well they do have fourteen conference championships, three bowl games to their name, and Bill Parcells as an alum. Of course, the program was ended back in 1986.

on the other hand, how many FBS teams do we need here? Also, as long as the Mountain West has thoughts of getting BYU back I don't know if Wichita State will be a candidate - football or no.

Looks like UMKC to WAC is official!
"Participation in all sports will begin in the new league in 2013-14, and UMKC will be eligible for league championships in each of its 16 sports."

If the MVC adds three Dakota schools, I may just have to kill myself. At that point, I'd support WSU dropping all sports

RE: UMKC to WAC?
Actually, OaklandU (which is just north of Detroit for those who don't know) is the current eastern-most school in the Summit, and is the most likely candidate to replace Butler (who has already left the Horizon for the A-10); so if the A-10 takes another Horizon schools (like Detroit), then the Horizon likely takes IUPUI or IPFW (or both) from the Summit as well. That suddenly makes Western Illinois, the easternmost outpost of the Summit.

If the C-7 also takes Creighton (which is talked about, although not certain) - and this (according to stever20) could lead to the MVC taking SDSU (and possibly the other two Dakota schools); then that leaves only Western Illinois, UMKC and UN-Omaha (and incoming Denver) in the Summit.

And then blue becomes red, left becomes right, and Monday will come after Tuesday...

I have to sit down. This is a dizzying.

UMKC to WAC?
I would think Denver would come back to the WAC should the Summit fall apart. It would make more sense for the Summit to kill the WAC, but the WAC has been collecting a lot of exit fees lately.

The eastern schools in the Summit are probably also blocking any expansion west of Denver. The whole C7-A10-MVC-Horizon-Summit chain guarantees the eastern schools homes in the event of a collapse.

WAC
Pacific - Seattle, CSU Bakersfield, Utah Valley, Grand Canyon, Idaho
Central - Denver, UMKC, UTPA, Chicago State, NMSU, Omaha

C7
West - Creighton, St. Louis, DePaul, Marquette, Xavier, Butler
East - Seton Hall, St. John's, Villanova, Georgetown, Providence, Richmond

A-10
takes Detroit, Cleveland State, Valparaiso, UIC from Horizon

MVC
takes NDSU, SDSU, USD from Summit
loses Missouri State and Illinois State to FBS

Horizon
takes WIU, IPFW, IUPUI, Oakland from Summit

WAC could convince Idaho to stay, or replace them with a D-II school in the Pacific Division

it'll be interesting to hear if this caught the current Summit Schools by surprise. If it didn't, tells me they are all scrambling themselves....

RE: UMKC to WAC?
So after the dust settles:

C-7 plus 3-5:
EAST: Providence, St.John's, SetonHall, Villanova, Georgetown, VCU??, Richmond??, Dayton?? - I have no idea
WEST: Xavier, Butler, DePaul, Marquette, St.Louis, Creighton

A-10 loses 5 or 6 [Butler, St.Louis, Xavier to C-7; Charlotte to C-USA; Temple to the BigEast remnant conference and maybe UMass, Dayton or VCU as well. Either VCU or Dayton could also (or instead of St.Louis) go C-7. Would UMass join the MAC for all-sports if the A-10 gets this decimated?] and adds schools from the Horizon (Detroit, Valparaiso, etc):
VCU??, Dayton??, or (St.Louis??), UMass??, LaSalle, GWashington, St.Josephs, Richmond??, St.Bonaventure, Fordham, RhodeIsland, Dusquesne, maybe Detroit, Valparaiso??

Horizon loses 1-2 more [perhaps Detroit and Valparaiso] to A-10, and adds 2-3 [Oakland, IUPUI and IPFW] from Summit to replace them and Butler (who has already left).
ClevelandSt, YState(OH), Oakland(MI), WrightSt(OH), IUPUI, IPFW, Ill-Chicago, Loyola(Chicago), UW-Milwaukee, GreenBay
I'm not sure the Horizon is even hurt in this further trade-off [obviously, the loss of Butler (past tense) was a biggie]. Is it?

Summit loses 4-7 [(Oakland, IUPUI, IPFW (to Horizon) and maybe SDSU, USD and NDSU (to MVC), as well as UMKC (to WAC)] and adds Denver:
WesternILL, Nebraska-Omaha, Denver

Who haven't I covered yet? WAC? MVC? MAC? SunBelt?

As a MAC fan, I'd like to see us get WKU (all-sports) and expand UMass' commitment to being an all-sports member...but if WichitaSt and MissouriSt want a new home too...

No way any Dakota school gets into the MVC . The only schools that would be in favor of the Dakotas would be Drake and UNI.

RE: UMKC to WAC?
As for the MVC, all of the talk about Missouri State and Illinois State going FBS are premature. Illinois State is probably closer to that but neither one is ready for that move yet. Then again which conference would they go to? I'm not sure the MAC wants either but what do I know? Sunbelt you say? Both schools still love their basketball and at that both the MAC & Sunbelt are weak. As for the Sunbelt, how attractive is it if WKU should leave?

As for the MVC, all of the talk about the Dakotas might be off track. Many in MVC land are attracted to the potential of University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee. Like many I see them as a sleeping giant. They're talking of adding football and maybe they should change their name to the University of Milwaukee.
