What school is far better than the conference they are currently in ?
Ok first throw away that stupid market crap, city size.
What I want you to list here is the schools that have a great history in
Basketball or Football and are being left behind because of Market size
or politics. LIST THE LEFT OUT SCHOOLS
Hell if you were just organizing conferences today , and went just by market
size half the schools in the SEC would be members of Cusa.
Ok here are my first two that deserve much better.

Market size has nothing to do with the population of the city/DMA your school is in.
It's how many fans you bring to the table. That's why UF in Gainesville is more valuable than UCF in Orlando or why Syracuse is more valuable than St Johns.

If you asked, "What schools THINK they are far better than the conference they are in" - - now that would be a very long list.

How is Western Kentucky better than their conference? They have only been FBS in football since 2009 and their best record is 7-6. They have a storied basketball history, but let's not act like they are hanging national title banners up there.

RE: What school is far better than the conference they are currently in ?
Ok, I'll bite. I'll go with 2014 conferences.
For football:
1) FSU
2) Southern Miss
3) USC
4) Boise
5) Cincinnati
For basketball:
1) Gonzaga
2) Kentucky
also: Western Kentucky, Penn, Belmont, and Murray State
I'd say Duke and UNC if we were going by 2012 conferences, but the additions from the BE will make the rest of the conference legit (finally). Also, if Dayton gets left out of the C-7, they will be 3rd on this list.
Combined football and basketball:
1) Cincinnati
2) Southern Miss
... big jump....
3) Florida, Ohio State, Texas
6) Connecticut
and that's about it.

Yeah, if those two programs with their inflated sense of self worth leave, nobody in the ACC will bat an eye, right?
Enjoy those games at Duke's and Wake's half-full 30,000-seat stadiums.

It is not so much that WKU is SOOOOOOOO great. It has more to do with the fact that the sbc is SOOOOOOOOOOOO bad. We would be a great fit for cusa (or the c7 if we dropped football, I am kinda in favor....) I think that basketballwise we could easily compete in the nbe or the nACC....but that is my homer thought... Would love to be in cusa, hopefully USM is still there.

WKU has a 21,000 seat football stadium. I don't buy that they're better than the Sun Belt or the top program by far. Nice program. Good enough for CUSA or the MAC? Sure, as is the rest of the Sun Belt. Clearly better than the rest of the Belt? Not a chance.

you are full of crap. look beyond football. in the belt you have WKU and MT, then everyone else. WKU is a better overall program, we have a higher budget, good size school. our stadium is ready to be built out to up to 50k when ready. right now we don't need it. as for football. we have made as good a transition as anyone ever has... wku is more committed to athletics than anyone else in the belt. I do not see most teams as being good for cusa, most of the schools who left were not cusa material. wku has been the best overall program in the belt since we joined.

I'm tired of the Clemson and Florida State fan base's incessant bitching about the ACC. I realize my viewpoint is drastically different from theirs as Syracuse is leaving the Big East. Their inferiority complex's and conspiracist tendencies and just mind-bogglingly irritating, tough. Every move the ACC makes is wrong.
For instance, the ACC adds Louisville, which Clemson and FSU fans wanted, but they ***** about the recruiting area Louisville offers as being poor. Now it's a conspiracy that they're in a division with the three worst recruiting areas the ACC has to offer. As if the ACC is trying to harm Clemson and Florida State football. They've come to the conclusion that the administrations at Clemson and FSU simply "gave up" trying to combat all these poor decisions.

RE: What school is far better than the conference they are currently in ?
If you go by history instead of recent performance, Miami has to be up there on the list. For football, there's fifteen MAC titles, the 20th highest winning percentage all time in DI football, 7-3 record in bowl games, a number of ranked finishes, plenty of famous playing alumni, and of course the Cradle of Coaches. Basketball has most NCAA tourney appearances in the MAC (17) and four Sweet Sixteens as well. We have hockey thriving right now too, but that is irrelevant in this discussion.
Unfortunately, our basketball peaked in the nineties as hockey overtook it in popularity, and Haywood's 2010 season is the only thing we've done since Hoeppner left for IU in 2004. Now we're just another MAC school with second-rate facilities, the smallest enrollment in our conference, one of the smaller fan bases of the non-AQ schools, and probably one of the smallest "markets" in major college athletics.

and playing in 40k stadium don't mean crap if you only draw 16k. look at cusa, mac, and be attendance. wku would fit right in with the majority of those teams.

RE: What school is far better than the conference they are currently in ?
Anyone in the Big Ten, SEC, Big 12, ACC or Pac-12 can't be on this list. Schools within that group might have preferences to be in a different league, but none of them could possibly be considered to be left out.
For football, UConn, Cincinnati and Boise State are all schools that *should* be in better conferences even taking into account off-the-field conference realignment factors such as TV value and brand names (not just looking at on-the-field performance).
For basketball, Gonzaga and UNLV are much more valuable programs (once again, looking at off-the-court value as much as on-the-court value) than what their respective conference homes reflect.
