I think most of the MAC envies Toledo's women's BB attendance.

That number is larger than some arenas in the MAC.

The JAR is very loud when it's full. That sounds like an obvious statement but 5000 sounds a lot louder in a gym that seats 5500.

Dambrot said after the game [obviously paraphrasing] "this is why kids come to Akron....I always say that if you're an Akron Zip, every game becomes more important as the season progresses....that's why kids come here...to win in big games in front of big crowds"

Listening to that on the radio got me pumped up! 04-rock Regardless of how this season ends, it's very reassuring knowing we have someone like Dambrot at the helm.

I'm sure, but I was serious, not trying to get a plug for our ladies: Akron has had good teams for several years but this may well be the best. The population should support larger crowds. And its hardly just Akron- UT's women are an unexplainable anomaly but one would think Buffalo, Akron and UT's men should draw pretty well, particularly when they are having a season like Akron's. I will now offer my formal apology for turning this into the dreaded attendance thread and extend my heartiest congratulations to the Zips for carrying the MAC flag this year.

EDIT: Just read your last post-I didn't realize the JAR seated only 5,500. That number makes more sense then. I was under the impression it held about 1,000 more than that.

With a season like this Akron should get support for a new arena that compliments its football stadium. Maybee Lebron kicks in a buck or two. Perhaps let him name it "LeBron James Akron Arena" That would fill his ego and get some national attention.

Should EMU show up Wednesday or is it still too dangerous? 03-lmfao

i think a deranged shooter on the loose will be the least of your team's worries on Wednesday night! 03-nutkick

Hope OU has a hangover from Saturday's game but the game could be ugly.

It was a lot of fun and you could tell the players were pumped up the size and sounds made by the crowd.

This was also the second game I've attended, both big crowds, but man is the student seating area weak. I'm sure I'm beating a dead horse on this one, but is it really just the 20-25 seats behind one of the hoops?

Nope, all of the seating behind the baskets is reserved for students(and was packed). There was probably ~1,000 students there. The JAR's goofy seating arrangement means that 90% of the student section is far removed from the most vocal AK Rowdies.

I long for the day when we can replicate the soccer student section!

The atmosphere in the JAR would be even better if the students could sit together. I guess the athletic department is content with giving the students the worst seats in the house.

I remember when you had some guy named Romeo (they kept chanting his name in some cheer) and about 100 Rowdies came to Toledo for a game. Great spirit-by far the best I've ever seen from visiting students. They were loud and organized and aside from one 40ish guy with a foul mouth, very well-behaved. I was quite impressed.

Romeo Travis was a good one.

The student section at Akron has improved across the board. Now if we could just get football figured out....

That was back when we actually had a good student section. We were getting into his head bigtime that game. When he fouled out he got pissed off and flipped his chair right in front of us. it was pretty awesome

That was the year we won the MAC and we narrowly slipped by Akron in a serious nail-biter. Travis was a force for sure.

That's the ultimate sign of success for any student section. Thankfully that was before I was involved with Akron Athletics, otherwise I might have been making an ass of myself in a similar fashion.

I noticed things were getting pretty chippy at the OU/Kent game. At one point a KSU player was about to inbound it right in front of the Ozone. They must have said something that irked him because he immediately turned around and started screaming at the students. I'm not sure which Kent player it was but he's lucky he didn't pick up a T for that.

And while we're on the topic of MAC on MAC hate...is it just me or is the OU team not well liked by other MAC teams? I know that no one shook hands after the BG/OU game and DJ Cooper stormed off the court after he lost to Akron. Perhaps I'm old fashioned, but sportsmanship(or lack thereof) says a lot about a player.

its just you. Tree from Akron and Crawford from BG recently congratulated Keely on twitter for hitting 1000K points. DJ Cooper did not storm off the court at Akron, he stopped guarding his man with 3 seconds left and began walking back to the bench... to get in line for the hand shake.

and you're wrong about OU and BG not shaking hands. They did, then BG's asst tried to fight OU's asst and the players broke it up. Then they continued shaking hands and a few even hugged it out.

Ohio players are tough and will grind it out against a team, but they're not the bad sports you're trying to make them out to be with incorrect info.

First of all, I'm not trying to make anyone out to be anything. I'm just voicing the perception that I have given what I've heard. I'm glad to embrace the fact that my perception isn't reality. In this case I hope that it isn't!

Sorry, my only source was others at the game. I was a tad "preoccupied" after the game. I will assume you're right.

Obviously, I wasn't there. That's just what a number of people said after the game(some were Ohio fans, if I recall correctly).

Here's a video from a fan who was pretty close to the incident. There was apparently some words between the assistants during the game which resulted in double bench technicals.

Wow. It's hard to tell, but it looked like the BG coach was the more belligerent of the two.

He was getting backed up pretty quickly by the OU coach there-he might have wanted to rethink that whole thing. Lucky his coach intervened.

props to Coach Orr and his son (#21) both were on that coach fast and defused the situation. Class acts.

The funny thing about "KSU Sucks" is that he seems to hate Ohio much more than he hates KSU.

Get the sticks out of your asses!

Agreed. I have no respect at all for the "Act like you've been there before" crowd. College basketball is about enthusiasm and fun. It doesn't matter who it's against, storming the court is fun. There's a reason Ohio has the best attendance in the conference even though they don't have the best product on the court (and it has nothing to do with the fact that there's "nothing else to do in Athens". It's because it is fun. Why do you care what other people think (including some journalist in NY)? Miami has been a similar program to Ohio over the last 15 years but their attendance is abysmal because they are the head of the "Act like you've been there" parade. Millett is just not a fun place to watch a game because the students want to act like guys my age.
