Really you dropped Baylor this late in the game for a September home game with Montana St?

Because the OOC schedule was brutal. Texas A&M, Baylor, TCU, and Texas Tech. That would mean a 1-3 or 0-4 record before the Big East season began. I think SMU initially tried to get out of the A&M game, but it ended up being Baylor.

SMU still has a multi-year agreement with Baylor. Only this year's game was canceled.

Your scheduler and/or AD needs to be fired...

Too bad they didn't do that a month ago. I'm sure WF would have preferred another game against Baylor over Louisiana Monroe.

Nah, Baylor wanted out too. They are going FCS as well

Looks like those games were scheduled to win favor with the then-Big 12. Surprising they are dropping one; it should have been a big payday and good exposure for the future.

We wanted to keep Baylor as it was a home game and drop A&M since it is an away game but the Aggies got all lawyered up

Was SMU trying to reform the old SWC or something? My lord, what a brutal schedule that would've been, and it'll still be very tough now for a nBE team.

I'll wager we told SMU that if they drop us this year then we aren't going to Ford in 2014. SMU knows thats a rare sell out game for them and didn't want to risk it.

I'm the weird person that likes A&M and UT. Whenever we play at Kyle Field the fans are nothing but gracious unlike Tech. I just wanted a big program at home.

I'm with you. I have always liked them both.

I also like it anytime old SWC members play. I understand why the conference inevitably had to end, but I miss the SWC.

There is no "we" in regards to 10th and A&M. Tech will sell out Ford Stadium this year and the Mustangs know that. They also know that we will play them in Dallas on a semi regular basis. Ford only seats 32K and we have done a good job filling up Ford the few times we have played there. A&M has played SMU once in Dallas since the break up of the SWC. The SMU admin should have dropped the ags and left them to find a replacement instead of Baylor.

This is coming from a person that hates Baylor and A&M. The SMU AD should have realized who will play you in the future instead of a short term gain by getting butt-kicked in cultville.

I miss nothing about the old SWC. With the exception of UT( A&m was their largest draw and UH 2nd from 1976-1995), the 4 left behind SWC schools were the weakest draws for A&M, Tech and Baylor.

That being said, I have no problem playing Houston, Rice and SMU OOC.

Personally, I had rather play Baylor and TCU....than A&M or Tech

I think SMU knows they can simply tack on one more game to our series (we play until 2020 IIRC) and chose us because:

- a home game is easier to get out of.
- Tech is in it's final game of their series.

I think each of BU, TCU, Tech, and A&M would sell out or come close to selling out Ford if history is any indication.

BU vs SMU 2005 (when both were bad) came 4k from a sellout with over 12k BU fans there (tons in the end zone as well as the visitor sideline)

So SMU isn't going to make crazy money above or below the other options. All 4 travel well but BU is the home game that was smarter to put off. You might not get another Tech date and BU seems inclined to keep playing SMU.

Poor JML, I'm sorry SMU doesn't share your frothing butthurt of A&M. They know playing A&M is great exposure for them. They weren't going to drop Tech because you're the easiest and most likely win of the 4 SWC teams they have scheduled.

A bit jealous......

A&M and Baylor refuse to play us and have not since the SWC folded.

Every other SWC school (even Texas) has at some point but those two.

They have flat out told us they will not play us.
