24/7 Article on UNC/B1G/Bucknuts editor Dave Biddle
Basically stating that UNC has a firm/commit offer from the B1G according to Jeff Ermann who actually broke the Maryland/ACC story and he is standing by it. Also pretty much the ball is in UNC court and hints that the B1G is not the only league going after the Tar Heels-(SEC).

Time will tell if it's accurate.

Not surprised at all.

But do they want to give up being King of the ACC? That's the billion dollar question.

Why is a Maryland guy breaking UNC news considered anything close to being accurate? Where's the buzz from UNC?

He is in violation of internet code 3.21811 subsection C which clearly states that only West Virginia message boards talk about ACC teams leaving for better situations. Everyone who has read this thread needs to get under their desks in a fetal position, sing their favorites ACC school's fight song and await further instruction.

He's the guy who broke the Maryland to the Big Ten story early.

I understand that. But that was a Maryland story. Even then he was hesitant to say Rutgers was included. At the time, he also said GT and UVA would come soon, too. Everyone loves a good rumor, but the real stories come from those associated with the actual schools that are moving.

Well, we don't have any proof that UNC wants to be in the Big Ten or SEC, just like we don't have any proof that Texas wants to be in the Big Ten or SEC.

But even if UNC did want the SEC -- they would hesitate because they don't want to be blamed for what would happen to the ACC if they leave, just like UT and TAMU lingered for a long, long time in the SWC because they didn't want to be blamed for killing the SWC.

I Would guess these 5 programs have open offers right now:

Texas- big 10, sec, pac 10
ND- big 10
UNC- big 10, sec
UVA- big 10, sec
FSU- big 12

the big news is if any accept or if leagues move on to other school's.

I'm not surprised that UNC could have offers from the B1G and SEC. They are a very valuable property for multiple reasons. Having an offer and accepting it are two different things, however. It'd only be smart for them to consider their options, even if their preference would be to remain as an anchor of the ACC.

The news story would be that the Big Ten has told UNC that if X and Y happen, or if UNC delays past this date, that UNC doesn't have a Big Ten invitation.

I would agree about ND having multiple offers, although the one I would actually not see in that list is the SEC. Yes, ND is the single most valuable football property out there, but the SEC as a whole is both the strongest football conference brand, as well as a pretty cohesive group of schools. Just as ND doesn't need the SEC, the SEC doesn't need ND, and I think that's fine with both parties.

This is all like Milton with Paradise Lost. The Big Ten is trying to get people to serve in THEIR heaven. Switching the analogy to chess, this is basically just volunteering to be a pawn in the game between OSU and Michigan.

I doubt that would happen. My guess would be an invitation in perpetuity.

IMO, this is the point that people keep missing. If this was accurate, we would be hearing SOMETHING from reliable sources in the UNC community. Instead, we get "reports" from bloggers from other schools with an agenda.

As was already stated on this thread, he is a Maryland blogger who supposedly broke a Maryland story. What does that have to do with UNC?

IMO, until a credible UNC source weighs in on this, it is baseless speculation.

That's why it would be news. Something like "If you don't join now, we're going to 16 without you, and we're discussed it and going past 16 isn't something we're going to do."

That would be news. That the Big Ten officially wants UNC isn't.

If we approached them and asked to join I think they would welcome us with open arms. Won't ever happen because the differences are sooooo great like you eluded too.

Let's be realistic. If UNC had picked up the phone and called the SEC or the Big 10 in the past four or five years and said, "We want to join", it would have happened.

Reporting that UNC has been approached or offered only means those leagues aren't waiting for UNC to call.
